Again not defending the appeal, but the ball wasn’t dead, the umpire can’t call over until in his view the ball is dead!
It’s not up to Bairstow to declare the ball is dead! The onus is on Bairstow to stay in his crease until the ball is “dead” and over has been called!
Its certainly one of the vague areas of cricket because the only time you can then technically know for sure a ball is dead is after over is called. So only after 1 sixth of all deliveries

That makes it more ambiguous for the other 5 deliveries. But batsmen leave their ground after lots of deliveries at various times, at all levels if cricket, and you don't have run out attempts when they are doing a bit of gardening etc.

It should be about the intent. Where they trying to gain an advantage. Where they attempting a run?

Its actually slightly different from a non striker being ran out. If they leave ground early you can argue they are clearly getting an advantage. In this scenario its not really the same.
