The Ashes 2023

There's a common denominator there.
Unless you mean AFL? Jones was a cricketer (like Lehmann). Plenty of examples in NRL, soccer and athletics too.

I read a heartbreaking interview with Nova Peris a while back where she recounted the racist abuse she received from people in her own country when she played hockey.

Not trying to score points with this by the way. I realise there are awful incidents in lots of sports in lots of countries, merely pointing out that as Australians we’re very much in a glass house in regards to racism in sport.

Mate, don’t think ‘Straya can take the moral high ground when it comes to racism in sport. Sam Newman, Eddie McGuire, Dean Jones and Rex Hunt all spring to mind, and that’s just the pundits.

Bunch of 60+ year old white guys who grew up on Love Thy Neighbour and were a direct reflection of casual historical racism. Never actual malice from them rather unintelligent buffonery but I do get your point.

Coach my own age directly referred to Islander players as ‘Coconuts’ but they never seemed to mind and always gave it back to him.

Yes AFL, it's entrenched and endemic in that sport. Their controlling of the southern media can only sweep so much of their racism under the carpet.

Honestly you lot get a grip.

One week it’s “what about the spirit of cricket”

Then it’s “ change the rules of test cricket”

You gave yourselves no room for anything except perfection by being 2 nil down but your looking everywhere for excuses and hypotheticals instead of accepting that your team is not better than the number 1 test team in the world and you haven’t revolutionised test cricket.

I cant help but agree with this.

Typical English humbug when they get beaten. The English are the Kopites of England.

Ehh, many of us have been complaining about lack of reserve days and the hours of play for a while. It's not a new phenomenon, just having more light shed on it given whats happened this week.

The fact a County game starts at 10:30 and can run as late as 7:30 but a Test HAS to start at 11 and usually end by 7 (at a push) is frankly ludicrous. We'll say this if we lose to Australia, New Zeland, Bangladesh, doesn't matter.

British journos having a go at stokes and baz today, they make me sick
