The Ashes 2023

Dont get why the Aussies in here are getting all "Whinging Poms" about this.

The overwhelming attitude over here is that it was just a massive shame that a fabulous series was ruined. If they had managed to play, Aussie could have played stoically, set England a target, and bowled us out. Or we could have had a nail biting decider at The Oval. Both are way better than what happened. But, that is cricket.

Well played Aussie, clearly the best side retained the urn. Ish, but we will never know.
I don't believe, based in the cricket played to date that they are the better team. Sure the score is 2-1 but for anyone who has watched the 4 matches that scoreline is perverse

Sort of, there's been a multitude of big moments in each match, that entire first innings by the aus at OT was peculiar, and the sheer volume of mistakes made by both sides. Some very borderline calls been made also. lyon's injury to. There's been worse tempered ashes previous also.

I'd counter Lyon's injury with injuries to Archer , Stone and Leach.

To some extent England were the authors of their own misfortune by picking Bairstow ahead of Foakes but on the balance of play I think that most fair minded observers would say that England have been the better team.

The England injured were never even in the squad though. Aussie lost a key bowler during the series. Like they did with McGrath in 05.

We were the more ambitious and adventurous side, which eventually spooked Cummings, but we also had sessions bordering on stupidity. Day 5 at OT aside, it will live long in the memory though, and it needs two decent sides to make that happen.

Olly Stone was never going to play this summer

I have no idea why his name keeps getting bandied around the Test scene

One thing Kumar spoke about was Englands attempt to return test cricket to the apex of the sport as a format. I imagine since Baz and Stokes took over far more up and coming English cricketers will be thinking about becoming test players and not just being suited to white ball cricket.

As well as authors of their own downfall, with each toss won, batting not long enough, then batting to long, then chancing the weather, there's no mean streak in them, its a nasty mentality side - which is why so much has been made of entertaining england, saving test cricket, and words in the lords chamber.

Only one I saw or heard* get some attitude on him was Broad after the carey thing. Get on the wind up and don't relent. It's a home ashes for fudges sake, get into these apparently reformed cheats, entertain, drag them through the mud, this is what this event is for, it's not the two bob dance down the local ritzy!
