The Ashes - Australia 2013/14

A lot of people probably saying Johnson is Australia's stand out player. But look at what haddins done he has taken tests away from us. In the first innings in the first tests we had them and Haddin dug them out of a hole and the same is happening here.

Unbelievable how many runs England actually allow the last 5 wickets go for. It actually more runs than they are currently making as a team.

haha. what a surprise, the safe option of bresnan doesn't work and why has the whole batting line-up remained the same bar trott leaving for the whole series?

'koff england, you're broing. The first two tests showed an End of an era if ever there was one, but the selectors stick with pretty much the same team despite saying there'll be changes.

one is abd enough, but steven smith! has score 2! centuries against england shambolic. didn't watch it, but let me guess england were bowling continual long hops to aussies lower order of smith, haddin and johnson again instead of bowling yorkers? England have been dire at bowling to a tail end for about a decade now, yet they still use the same approach constantly.

amateur to say the least. the success recently was down to good players as opposed to anything else. anyone else notice that every time they don't perform there's no plan b and they just look lost. One day field to Mitchell Johnson, give it a rest ha, they get **** scared and negative of anyone who plays a couple of shots, boring!

Cook 41
Bell 39
KP 39
Trott 38

Those are the averages of our established batsmen in 2012 and 2013. We've been surviving on the back of our bowlers getting teams out cheaply for a few years now. The batsmen have fallen away dramatically.

Toffeejack Ive been reading your comments since the start of the series and everything you say is spot on. Australia are 4/9 to win this test. That is buying money.

I have sat up and watched it and feel like kicking everything in sight. I dont blame the players per se, bowling in 40 degrees must be hard but what pitch does it have to be for Finn to get a game? Like TJ says everything is safe. I would have dropped Swann but today he has performed. This bowling at lower middle order and the tail is awful, there is panic, there is no plan and there are about 643 backroom staff and not one of them can say, "here is an idea line and length".

I hate being a sore loser (unless its Liverpool) and downplaying the opposition but this will surely be one of the worst teams to hold the Ashes. Steve Smith is bog average and has been made to look a million bucks cos there is no real variation, thanks to the team selection. I'll credit the Aussies with the attacking cricket they are playing, they are scaring England.

England need to adopt an Australian attitude to come out swinging but its again, as TJ says always saftey and defensive first.

Thank God for Bobby Martinez or my christmas would be ruined.

i'd have stripped cook of the captaincy for the rest of the series if i'm honest, get him concentrating on his batting again before thinking about teh extra pressure, he needs to lead from the front. the bowlers are knacked for years worth of extra effort in hot hard places like sri lanka, pakistan, new zealand and now aus.

i know finn's off form, but he takes wickets every time, he took 6? in an innings in the first warm up game and yet bresnan comes straight back in for not doing anything. Bresnan's done nothing wrong in his test career, but he never fills you with confidence, it's just one abysmal decision after the other. How long have they given bopara to prove he's not international standard? he's still there ffs. Finn's broken wicket taking records yet doesn't get a sniff, he's the future of english test bowling ffs!

didn't he get dropped for taking 6 wickets in the first test last time in oz?

they should have given up on this series and at least tried to gain some pride by giving the future a go right now, who knows, they could have regained the ashes, guys like pietersen don't have the desire anymore, it's clear.

like you say, bang average aussie side, they hadn't won a test? all year before this series, that's terrible. i'm not even sure they've batted that well? i keep reading/seeing their wickets and they're throwing them away just as badly as england. They just have one or two per innings who stand up when they're in trouble, whilst englad whilt.

The aussies have 100 runs too many here. Their tail made batting look easy now watch our batsmen prove it isn't. I'm sensing some big scores from our batsman time for them to stand up.

Going for the draw me, think 'they' will let it happen so as not to 'ruin' the Boxing Day Test...at 3-0 it's all over as a contest, Ashes won, or lost, according to your liking. Result 2 'practice tests'

Hi mate you speak a lot of sense but you make it sound like recently we have struggled against those teams in recent times away. You have missed out India where we won and the series before that one we drew. We drew in Sri Lanka we won last time in New Zealand (I think). We won last time in Australia so the only team we struggled against away from home was Pakistan where I grant you we were seriously grubbed. But that was more down to us not being able to play spin and not our bowling.

and while you would play Finn is beyond me, he is far to expensive and gives you no control as a caption when trying to contain and build pressure which is how the England bowling unit work.

as for taking the captaincy away I'm sorry that makes no sense whatsoever to me mate. And also give it to who? Anderson? Swann?
