The defence will look better when the ball stops getting pinged back into them everytime we get it upfield. They are working overtime and put under scrutily far more than they should. A good hold up man up front and a midfield led by Garner smack in the middle of it will change things overnight. We played well against both fulham and wolves but if we field teams with zero threat or composure in the final third we deserve all we get.

Yep. Would take Dier all day for a season. Sit in front of the cb's son and protect the backline and allow Garner and Onana to run the midfield.
I am really suprised this is not something that had been looked at. We desperately need somebody who can protect the defense. Gana is done. We need somebody in there.

We have to stop hoofing the ball up field, especially Pickford it just gives the ball straight back to the other team. I noticed Chermiti telling others to play it into his midriff and not to his head yesterday and when it was he got it on the half turn and rolled the defender.

A Fullback is only as good as the player in front of him.
If this player drifts out of position or doesn't know his basic job, this leaves space infront of the FB.
The FB hangs back - and the opposition can run at him deep in his own half
The FB pushes into the space and they can triangle round him or play it over the top behind him

A decent Mid Field helps both back 4 and Forwards.
It's about 9(?) yrs now since Rogers' rs team and Suarez totally over ran us with their INTENSITY.
and that just in recent memory.

We're still searching for a Mid Field...and Intensity?? forget that (like Onana and others do)

Why worried? We are guaranteed top 20 finish…and u can’t ask for more now…

You can see this in just how vulnerable the left-side is without McNeil.
 
Can’t take any preferred line-ups with Mykolenko in the team seriously. I think some of you are forgetting just how bad he is. “Is ok defensively” is what’s said about him because his tragic lack of ability when he has the ball.

But the alternative is Young and I have no idea which is the least bad option. At least Myko is left footed, having two rightys on the left just does not work.

A competent natural left back would be a massive priority for me and let Young be a utility sub / competition for Patterson.
