The best/most interesting car you’ve ever owned

I didn't mind Ant (even though he's former plod) and totally understood his staying stateside to support his pretty and tv successful wife. Don't mind Elvis neither. It's a bit like tv heroin, it exists to just float alongside of. Obviously the Lambo and Noble episodes stick out as especially notable.

Yeah, the bad blood on them parting ways. An accidental institution, and as always some took sides in a social media age...
I couldn’t stand Ant but yeah I don’t mind Elvis either. It’s still not the same with the altered format but I’ll still watch it if it’s on

Think it was on the 'men and motors' channel, a long time ago. It has aged quite poorly because it doesn't give a year of filming, so when they end up making a couple of grand on whatever car by the end of the show, checking current values of what are classic cars shows they've had some really expensive investments on their hands and let them go.
'Car sos' is similar, but I have a bit of trouble with the arsing around in the middle of the show which sandwiches the heart felt good cause stuff.

Back to WD, Ed and Mike fell out, and if you go and research the subject it all got VERY messy.
I thought it was more to do with the producers of the show wanting to cut the amount of tool time which was Ed's forte because it was more costly to film and produce?. Ed wasn't happy about that.

They had a formula that fit with an audience, then upped sticks and took the dollars in america. Managers like change, it charges their ego, "see that there, I implemented that...". A show thrown together for buttons on some backyard tv channel like men & motors suddenly hit the big league, and would you believe the dealer holding the cash and cutting the deals was suddenly more the focus. Fancy that in the land of freedom, liberty and veneration of the super rich.
The youtube videos after the change are very telling.

Back in the day after just passing my test, I desperately needed a car for work. All my budget could stretch to at the time was a second hand Austin Meastro. It was a heap of crap. When it started from cold it was noisier than a First World War biplane and if I drove it through a puddle it cut out and the electrics died. Most inconvenient driving down the east Lancashire road.

I preferred my Jag XJ over my BMW 7 series for sheer comfort. But neither come close to the Range Rover I currently drive, the feeling of security in any kind of bad weather, snow or floods, or any obstacle coupled with its comfort makes it the best……

Mine aren’t conventional choices as every car model I’ve owned has been used as a taxi by many a minicab firm.

Ford Sierra 1.6LX - powerful? No. Exciting? No. Power steering? No. Go up a slight incline at 60mph in 5th? Absolutely not. But it was my first car, it was rear wheel drive and as daft as this sounds, because it was low on power, like an Italian waiter who waves his arms around but you don’t get the food any quicker, I could floor it and feel like I was Ayrton Senna, all the while my licence was safe. I had that accidentally sideways on the Cat and Fiddle Pass many a time. I also inherited it from my grandad so sentimental value too. Sadly, piston rings saw it off.

Ford Scorpio 2.3 Ghia - not technically mine, it was my dad’s but it was a blast to drive.

Ford Mondeo 1.8 LX auto - sounds boring but this was quite simply excellent and seemed far more powerful than Ford’s claim of 114hp, especially with the gearbox set to sport mode where you could actually see the fuel gauge needle point down as the Speedo needle pointed up.

Ford Focus Mk2 1.6 Ghia - again, sounds dull but these things (mk2) are absolutely indestructible. When Putin nukes us, all the cockroaches will be driving round in these. Being top of the range it was fully loaded, auto light, auto wipers, cruise control etc, and we brought both the kids home from hospital in it so again, very sentimental.

Land Rover Freelander2 2.2 SX - like the Scorpio, not mine but my dad’s but absolutely great to drive. Never a fan of 4x4s but this was was truly brilliant. Until it died in April this year. The best LR ever built in modern times.

Ford Grand C-Max - current car, it’s basically a van, I haven’t had it a year yet so the jury is still out but for something this size it’s great round the corners and like my Focus, has cruise control, all round leccy windows etc, and still hasn’t hit 30k. Was a mobility car during covid so the original owner hardly touched it as I assume they had to shield. Its load capacity is absolutely vast and Green Lane tip can’t say a word as my ‘most definitely a van’ is officially registered as ‘estate car’ so essentially, up yours, Green Lane and Otterspool tip staff.

2004 Citroen Dispatch 1.9D - special mention to my father in law’s old van, which had the comfiest driving seats I’ve ever experienced.

Soz about missing your post
What drew you to the Jag?
That one in particular:
Price...yes I know if it seems to good to be true - then it probably is.

In general:...Its a Jaaag🤷‍♀️
6600 aus dollars is £3387
There's more in the UK...though the market has dropped a price bit there, here there is a bit more of a rarity value.
I could get one 8yrs newer with a better spec for less in the UK.

Depending on milage obvs, that would go for aud15-19000+
I could ship it over for aud10,000 to my door...and I  seriously briefly thought about it?
@degsy spending the kids inheritance 1 Jag at a time:celebrate:

Put the money down and extend the garage to avoid the musical chairs with cars problem down the line? If you have space that

Space; the final frontier...and Mrs degsy

Mate, I`m the same.

If I ever came into serious money and bought a big house, the first thing on the list, would be it`d have to have garage big enough for about half a dozen cars.

A bit like Chris Evan`s garagein the grounds of his mansion, where he has all his classic cars lined up next to each other, in a garage, that has a sofa in, a sound system, a telly and fridge and the floor is clean enough to eat off - basically somewhere for me and cars to live

Even as a confirmed Jag fan, is it me or is there a reverse TARDIS thing going on and there seems to be less room inside than you'd think

This is very true. I remember the first time I was picked up in one, huge car almost no room in the front passenger seat……

Mobility cars are the best value for money out there, I’ve bought 2 cars now from a Suzuki main dealer at Eastham Motors near bromborough. I had a 62 plate Nissan Juke with only 24,000 miles on the clock and 5 service stamps from there for under £7k a few years ago… not everyone’s cup of tea but that car was faultless and I’m gutted I sold it.

My first XJ was that colour, with ultra white seats…a thing of beauty…..
