The Clear-out

Ignoring all the dross that were either on loan or running their contracts down, I would shift on the folllowing;

Coleman
Mina
The Swedish goalie
Gomes
Bernard
Richarlison
Holgate
Davies
Delph
Iwobi

Some of those will be a bit controversial but needs must.
Olsen is going anyway as he was on loan

Very difficult to shift players in volume and replace for a much better calibre when you finish 10th. We're almost entirely reliant on the clout of Carlo and Brands, which naturally weakens in credibility when the project they're invested in hasn't gone as well as planned to date. A 10th place finish - if you were doing well elsewhere, would you take the gamble?

That being said, I'm confident we can offload Delph, Bernard and Iwobi (maybe Gomes at a push) but I can't see anyone else going.

For me, the biggest requirement is still this position we've lacked for some time. Some kind of commanding centre back that's both technically good with actual bottle and leadership skills. Having that presence really impacts those around them positively.

Following that, a right back to start over Coleman and two wingers with pace/the ability to actually put a decent cross in.

Then a striker who can do more than head the ball.

All in all, likely about £150-£225 million in investment, with £50 million coming from the sale of the above players to net out at around £150m in transfer budget spent.

There's not a player in that squad we haven't already been listening to offers for. Nobody wants them - that's why all this talk of fictional transfer fees isn't really a good basis on what is or isn't achievable.

You need a buyer before you can sell and then find a way of pushing a deal through where the player is happy with the wage arrangements. Even getting rid on a permanent transfer doesn't always get all the wages off the books if they're on a big deal.

If Kean genuinely wants to give it a go at Everton then I'd look at keeping him. If he isn't into it though then he's a rarity in this squad where there is probably genuine interest and his wages aren't a stumbling block.
He wants out he tweeted Hoping to be bk(at PSG) next year

I personally think Allan is wasted as a defensive midfielder. His better games seem to have been when he has less responsibility and is able to drive forward. This summer I’d be looking for a proper defensive midfielder than can sit and go back to 4-3-3 with Allan and Doucoure breaking forward.

There is blatantly not going to be a clear out - at least not of the type that would be required to get us seriously challenging for anything other than mid table.

We could do with a midfielder who contributes a little more than nothing.

Allan - 0 goals
Davies - 0 goals
Gomes - 0 goals
Doucoure - 2 goals ( I think, maybe 3 if you add the fa cup goal )
Delph - 0 goals

Then defensively I think Keane and Mina might have scored 3-4 each but nothing from Digne or Coleman and 1 from Holgate.

Then the grand total of 0 goals from Iwobi and Bernard

Pathetic really isn't it.

In fairness to these lads, they both scored 1 league goal this season. Iwobi v Wolves and Bernard v United. They both scored away at the mighty Fleetwood Town as well.

Personally I think they deserve contract extensions as reward for their efforts.

Good shout Tim and yes I hope we reward them generously for those contributions

Get rid of as many as possible. It’s not as dramatic as throwing the entire squad on the transfer list but it’s not too far off.
Unsworth and the entire academy coaching staff need to be looked at too. The system needs a restructure or else we’ll be on this hamster wheel forever

Miracle to get anyone to take Delph.

The last half dozen seasons have shown we are stuck on the wheel. Far too many in the squad happy to sit out their contracts. Take Iwobi (please) complains he isn't being played in his best position lol but did he put in a transfer request to get a move to a team where he'd get regular games?...nope.

Doucoure can score goals, its a shame that he hasnt been able to have that freedom this year because he's been carrying the other two meffs that play alongside him in midfield.

You stick an out and out defensive midfielder next to Doucoure and it'll free him up to create more issues further up the pitch.
