Nah the European title thing doesn't wash I'm afraid, the European Cup is null and void because of the ban, it doesn't reflect the true history of the game.

As for the "bigger fan base"... Villa's record attendance is 76,588 and Everton's is 78,299.
 

If either club has to depend on attendances in the 1940's or trophies from the 1890's, it brings to mind two old women gossiping about how they were so glamorous they could pull American pilots in the second war.

You don't worry about ancient history when you're achieving in the present day. And I say that as a museum relic myself!
 
If the past 25 years (1990-1 to 2014-5) only counted there would be a massive fall from the Sky 4 to the rest (who, most likely, account for less than 15% of the trophy haul even before putting a value on each trophy).
