A decent man but after the IRA ceasefire of August 1994 he and grey Major sat on their hands doing nothing to advance a new settlement for the wee Six. This led to enormous frustration amongst the IRA activists and ultimately the horrible event of Canary Wharf in Feb 1996.
I always remember how I felt so sick when I heard about that bomb and the breakdown of the ceasefire.
For all their other faults Ahern, Blair and Clinton, with massive help from George Mitchell must be credited with negotiating the GFA.
Despite a number of bumps in the road, particularly the past two years of Donaldson's childishness, thankfully Stormont is finally back with. SF First and DUP Second Minister who DV will work together for all of the people of NI.
I respected Bruton's sincerity, but 1994-1996 was a huge opportunity missed by him and Major.
