Happy memories, I was 15 and seeing loads of full matches on tv was a novelty, especially the late kick offs.
That Peru game was well dodgy, they'd looked really impressive up to then, but rolled over far too easily. Didn't Argentina have to win that game by a few goals to qualify?

Just talking to my father in law about Menotti's year at Barça (83/84). Menotti apparently switched training to the afternoons so he and Maradona could go clubbing every night (at the 'Up and Down' disco - presumably, the Lisbon of its day).That was a great team in 1978.

Like others, I have great memories of watching the 78 World Cup as a kid, especially the Argentina games which were always on late.
Wasn't a huge grain shipment sent to Peru shortly after the result, or something like that.
Definitely a bribe somewhere, just looked it up. Argentina needed to win by 4 goals to qualify. One of the great world cups all the same.

Went to see it last September .... superb production , cast excellent and the actor playing Yosser ( that's how it is spelled in the program ) was uncannily like the the 'orginal ' Bernard Hill.
