The EU deal

I haven't followed most of this thread, so I don't know what's been stated on either side re: immigration, but there is a common misconception generally amongst remainers that brexiters are anti-immigration.

I think this is intentionally simplistic so they can call us xenophobic and racists.

I am pro-immigration, it is essential to any major industrialised economy and I love the UK to be seen as a land of opportunity and fairness.

But what we have today is not fair. It is a fact that ambitious, hard-working and educated people from all over the world are routinely denied entry or put to the back of the queue to control immigration figures because we are obliged to accept anyone from within the EU, regardless of their background. Anyone can see how unfair and completely unbalanced that is. This opinion is clearly not racist, not isolationist, but the exact opposite.

63 % didn't vote for Merkel either. Or the other 37%.
Do you believe that's true democracy?

Maybe it's because she's more aligned with your political leanings you think that's OK I don't know?
But that seems to be part of the problem to me. Some people want to be aligned with other countries purely because they've got the government they wish we had.
And they think that somehow that will benefit us.

I want elected leaders to be accountable to their own electorate myself.
Actually my interest is not that. Its just a principle that I think the more of us that work together the better. If the vehicle to do that can bring free trade, movement of labour and shift funds to where they are needed then great. If a European court can be a further recourse to justice I like that.. If, by being closer we can learn things from countries that do it better then we should and likewise the other way. The more countries involved the greater likelihood of a centre ground. Thats just what I believe and dont think the imperfections of the EU should get in the way of a great idea.

Did anyone watch on Channel 4 the DC/Boris Story from day one very amusing to find to get the. Leadership of his party DC had to be a Euro Sceptic to win the leadership!lol
The guy he beat David Davis was then pro Europe, now a big outer in the campaign he would have made a better leader IMO grammar c
School lad off a council estate! - Boris changes like the wind but not as bad as Deadly Dave!

It doesn't matter that you are talking absolute common sense, you will still be called xenophobic or 'scared of foreigners'. The remain group listen to no reason, accept no facts, see no problems, but know that they are right.......

We have a lot to learn from Albania.......our culture and civilisation needs this sort of input.......

Yes mate. We leave the EU club, we take back control and create our own laws. We continue to trade with the EU because they make more from us than we do from them. We continue to trade with all the other countries that we currently do because we have signed agreements with them. We develop additional trade agreements that the EU currently are locked out of. We develop our existing links with the Commonwealth in addition. We stop uncontrolled immigration and set up a process of allowing in anyone who we think adds value, not just because the belong to the EU. We get back in with English speaking countries such as the USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand whose people are excluded from the Eu. We redevelop our links with India, Africa, South America and the Far East as we have always done. We stop sending Billions to prop up the EU and the Euro countries and become competitive again. In summary we become more democratic and look after our own.........

You make it sound so easy the problem is it wont be.

Pete. Farage could not have put it better. If Albania is struggling so much then it might get the help it needs in the EU. Like we got in the eighties when work was scarce.

You are right to point it out. I think they are streets ahead as a nation and welcome lots of German influence in the direction of Europe. Don't think its run for their benefit particularly. Think their development to a truly mixed economy, renewables, recycling and high regard for skillsets other than Financial Services and Property Speculation has given them the lead. We should look and learn.

'Great' Britain has been a leader in so many things in the past, but has not got over the fact it does not have colonies any longer. There are lots of other countries who do certain things much better than we do. Dutch Health Service, German investment in manufacturing, Finnish Social Services etc. We should be really in the thick of it in Europe and getting as good as they are when its better and leading when we are. We have never really got stuck into it, always one step removed somehow.

We are really stuck between being Europeans or Little America. I know what I prefer.

Hahaha....if we really had a choice of being part of the Eu or the USA, I'd pick the USA........

Identify the help we got. The likes of Albania and the Balkans have done nothing but cause trouble in Europe. However you dress it up, we are a completely different people in terms of culture and adhesion to the rule of law. To ignore this is daft. If you think it's such a good idea then invite an Albanian male to live in your house, and let us know how that works out........

It actually will be very easy as it's all mostly in place. People in the UK have to stop being scared of going back out into the big bad world and dealing in trade again. It really isn't that difficult.........

Well, in Eurovision they cannot be relied on.

But a general tarnishing of all Albanian males seems a bit steep.

Yeah great.

Will work for food...will invade small nations for the most spurious of reasons (imperialism)...will execute the mentally feeble...will poison your water...

Sack both ideas. Better off on our own ffs.

This is true. All of it remnants/old gripes from the ottoman empire. Yet people think turkey joining is a good idea? Defies reason imo.
