Haha. Yesterday, when the undercurrent of xenophobia was flowing the Brexiteers on here were up in arms that they might be perceived that way. Now the Brexiteers are hailing Enoch Powell as great and brilliant. Laughable.

Look I vote Labour he predicted riots on the streets in major cities in the UK like it or not he was correct I have not got a racist bone in my body, but I respect a politician who gets a forecast correct, unlike phoney Dave C who used his Euro sceptic views to become the leader of his party, and now states the EU is the best thing since sliced bread peddling unfounded propaganda I hope it's his downfall!

What exactly did he say that has turned out to be wrong?

I've just done a quick google on the speech and the points he made are no different than what people like Trevor Phillips have said recently about multiculturalism.

Even Edward Health, the PM that sacked him later said some of the points he made had merit.

You will forgive me. I don't know a great deal about him apart from what I just Googled.
 
I don't want the thread to sway too far off topic, but he was brilliant.

He was highly intelligent and become a professor at the age of 25. He also served in World War 2 and reached the rank of brigadier in his early thirties, which was remarkable. As for racism, one has to explain what they mean when they throw this buzzword at people, it is meaningless.

The President of the unelected executive arm of the European Union (EU) has vowed to block all right wing populists from power across the continent, shortly after acquiring the power to exert “far-reaching sanctions” on elected governments.

Jean-Claude Juncker, the president of the European Commission, promised to exclude Norbert Hofer, the leader of Austria’s Freedom Party (FPÖ), from all EU decision-making if elected ahead of yesterday’s presidential vote.

“There will be no debate or dialogue with the far-right,” the liberal bureaucrat told AFP.

So you think racism is a buzzword!

The guy may well have acheived, it doesn't make him brilliant. He incited racial hatred. He propagated attacks on other people based purely on the colour of their skin.

Yes, racism etc. are buzzwords which are often used to shutdown debate and discourse.

But I thought the EU was democratic.

It's a bit like progressives. You only get to have free speech when you agree with them. Everything else gets labelled as hate speech.
