Turkey could save Merkel or bury her politically because of her migrant problem. Politicians do strange things when their cushy life is threatened........

I put up a video of a man with a well reasoned and strong argument for leaving. You reply with an obviously biased set of pictures of random people. Says a lot about your debating skills really.

Merkel isn't going to be still in charge of germany by the time the vote for turkey joining the eu will roll around. 14 chapters still have to be unfrozen. Will take 5 years minimum.

Turkey's own foreign minister has said he doesn't think it will happen.

And the rest. 30 odd years since the conditions were laid down. They currently meet 1/35th of them.

And nobody even wants it to happen any more. 2/3rds of turks don't want to join and 2/3rds of europeans don't want them to join. There simply isn't the will by anyone for it to happen.

You can talk about germany all you want but it needs to be unaminous, every single eu country needs to be in favour. And cyprus and greece and france aren't going to be.

Could the germans convince them to play ball by economic warfare? Possibly. But that's a hell of a risky straegy for something of very little benefit to them.

The whole concept seems to be based on the turks really wanting eu membership and I don't think they want it enough to make it worth germany's while to go to bat for them to that extent.

Certainly if it was that important to erdogen then he wouldn't have let his foreign minister say he didn't think it was going to happen.

At first I thought he was just merely sticking to his guns, but I've noticed there is zero flexibility in any of his reasoning. It's like he's been indoctrinated. There is no 'grey area' with him.

There is no room for humour, or any convivial ambiguity in whatever people say - if it doesn't comply to his dogma, unequivocally.

You say something - no matter what - and there is NO ambiguity; it's just fascism and that's the end of it. Just accept you're a neo-nazi if you don't agree
