The EU deal

It's really only you who keeps bringing race into the discussion. Like when you wrote this.

Try answering me this question since you didn't answer my last one. What do you think using the race card to try and win a debate about immigration is going to do for race relations?

Because I think it would and is making them worse. It's divisive and the people that you say you want to protect will bare the brunt of that divisiveness.

Yet we all know the truth. You couldn't give a fig about them. You're just using it to win the argument no matter what the cost. So spare us your moral grandstanding.
And as for this bit, I don't really know where to start. Married to a an EU Muslim. Living together in this country together for the last 12 years. Seen it and heard it all, and it has got worse since the rise of UKIP. It's no coincidence.

I'll defend the right of my wife and children to live in a country free of intolerance. And I have no issue with standing up for their right to be respected.

My wife has given a huge amount to this country. She's an exceptionally intelligent woman and since she moved here has given her skills and abilities to working in the 3rd sector. She has mastered the language and is currently sitting her finals for an English degree. She also tutors secondary school kids French (charging them depending on her mood).

In return she has endured the usual derogatory comments from people who only hear the french accent or who have found out from friends of friends of acquaintances that she's Muslim. Its obviously not everyone. Not even close. But as stated earlier one instance is too many. Is she sensitive? Yep. Is that relevant? Not at all. The ignorant actions of others hurts.

People may mock and hide their views behind statements like 'it was a joke'. But it really isn't funny. It makes people feel self conscious, unwelcome, 2nd class.

Big guys the lot of them who do it with the arrogance to not actually give a shiny one. The actions of some on here is no different. Ignorant bigots who haven't got a clue about the lives of others. Can't see past, race, language, religion. Letting their prejudices take over.

Great site lads.

I think for the majority of people voting out immigration is the main reason behind it,not who is passing laws, not whether bananas have to be a certain way,not all of them are racist,I know teachers, nurses, trade union reps, socials all voting out
Calling all those who want some manner of restriction on immigration 'racists' is the foremost tactic of the Remain camp. Turning friend against friend. 'How can you associate with RACISTS?!'

To me its just throwing a blanket over it a sort of one size fits all label, yet its ok to say well these immigrants work harder than lazy Brits, surely thats as racist

It works too, people obsess over their social status.

The problem is that people have genuine fears over immigration. Some are economical and some are cultural. The fact is people don't think too hard about these issues however most people don't like change.

They don't want to live in a country that they no longer feel is theirs. A small amount of immigration brings a lot of positives however when people see whole areas where the native culture is replaced then that is something the people don't want. Then you come along and tell them they are racists for feeling that. The rise of racism isn't because of UKIP. UKIP is a reaction to the policy of uncontrolled immigration. It's actually a testament of the tolerance of our society the people rejected the BNP and instead supported UKIP.

The rise of racism is a response to uncontrolled immigration and people being told they are racist for not wanting it. You can't control people's views on immigration in this way. All you can do is delay it by burying it but eventually the end result will be worse. If I was you and it was my wife the last thing I would want is more immigration.

Great site lads.

You are far too sensitive. I'm from Liverpool and have sat in the boardrooms of some pretty large companies, yet I've always heard the "check your wheels on the car" or "what do you call a scouser in a suit" remarks. Are they cruel ?, only if you wish them to be. The Irish, the scots, the welsh, the Geordies, the cockneys, the Manc and the brummies have all undergone similar jokes, cruel or not, so why should Muslims or poles or anybody else be off limits. Being part of a joke shows being part of the population and culture, crying racism shows you being not being part. It may not be nice but it's still our culture and assimilating into our culture is a key part of being British. You would do your partner far more good by being far less defensive. You need to be able to laugh at yourself and if you can't then perhaps Germany would be a better destination......but I imagine you will now seize upon this last comment as being racist and offensive.......

The rise of racism is a response to uncontrolled immigration
It really isn't. It's a response to issues of social inequality. Whilst one sector of society is busy creaming it off the top, they are using diversion tactics and suggesting that the reason others have to suffer is because of foreigners. That's where the division starts.

Mate there has always been a divide and conquer in politics, this government has attacked the sick and disabled, next is the low paid and while doing this they throw the immigrants into the mix as the cause of the cuts, being white anglo saxon male I havent had to deal with racism, but its a lot better than i remember in the 70s/80s and look at the rise in right wing groups all over Europe that coincides with free movement

Well we agree on something. It is the fault of the people at the top. The people at the top want to see us divided so they can play each group of against each other and maintain power. As I quoted earlier. The thing they can't allow is for any country in Europe to be homogeneous which is why they are so pro immigration.

However that's also my point. Not wanting your culture to change to another person's culture is not racist. It has nothing to do with hating the new arrivals culture rather just not wanting yours to change. Labeling people racists who don't want that change is wrong and doing the work of the elite.

Indeed, the USA suffered real racism, with the KKK and separate bussing of students etc. The UK, being a world trading country has always had differing races, religions etc within it. We tend to muddle on whatever we are faced with. However, when it gets to a point where Australians and Canadians (who's fathers fought for our existence) are refused entry, yet Eastern Europeans etc (who's fathers fought to destroy our existence) are allowed in due to EU rules then we eventually ask questions of why, and that's what is happening now............

You're also a bloke, living in your own hometown / country.
There is some difference between the types of joke you've used as an example and the intimidation / intolerance I've witnessed. Will readily admit that once upon a time I would've partaken in some of your jokes, I'm now far more cautious, reluctant even to make jokes on stereotype, especially if I know I haven't got a good grasp of the culture or knowledge of the individual. It is exceptionally disrespectful. With repect, your jest about Germans and no sense of humour is a good example (& I do recognise it's a joke). My multi national family includes a brother living in Germany. Some of his mates have tremendous senses of humour. Others not so much. You don't actually find out until you get to know them.

In regards to your comments re: being over defensive, I'm afraid that I can't fully agree. People need to stand up to intolerance. You should never ever blame someone on the receiving end. That said, it is evident that my defence has been antagonistic, bringing out the worst in others. Deeply concerning that it is there in the 1st place.
