The EU deal

If you believe coming out of the EU will have no financial implications just take a look at how the £ has nosedived this morning (On the back of Boris throwing his weight behind No campaign).

Like it or not he is the buffoon polls show he is the most popular politician in the country. His announcement yesterday is significant.

That's akin to being the world's tallest dwarf. Taller, admittedly, than many other dwarfs, but still a dwarf, and as such exempt from any job that has a minimum height requirement. Thanks Stewart Lee

Seems a fairly democratic way of doing things.
1 President, 7 Vice-Presidents and 20 Commissioners
A new team of 28 Commissioners (one from each EU Member State) is appointed every five years.

The candidate for President of the Commission is proposed to the European Parliament by the European Council that decides by qualified majority and taking into account the elections to the European Parliament.

The Commission President is then elected by the European Parliament by a majority of its component members (which corresponds to at least 376 out of 751 votes).

Following this election, the President-elect selects the 27 other members of the Commission, on the basis of the suggestions made by Member States. The final list of Commissioners-designate has then to be agreed between the President-elect and the Council. The Commission as a whole needs the Parliament's consent. Prior to this, Commissioners-designate are assessed by the European Parliament committees.

So no real voter gets to vote then.......

The EU is awful. There's no real chance of defending it, but it's the lesser of two evils.

What do you all really want - a system where at least there's a system of checks and balances that keeps the Tories from demolishing the serfs of the UK totally, or a return to total Tory right wing dominance over everything?

It's not a coincidence it's only the extreme right and extreme left in terms of politicians that want a Brexit, as they recognise that it will give them what they always want - egotistical total power over the masses.

Does he really want out though?
"It is time to seek a new relationship, in which we manage to extricate ourselves from most of the supranational elements."
He's left himself a lot of wriggle room there.

i like to think my mum and dad are good barometer for public opinion, they both vote tory and get outraged by immigrants and the like

they both want to stay in the eu, based on that i think the county will vote yes

I was saying this last night to her. That there would be a guaranteed Scottish exit from the Union if there is a Brexit.

Suppose there's good in bad if you look hard enough for it.

I long for a Scottish passport so I can finally reject the bosom of English tits forever.

That's the best part of it. If the SNP want to have another try at Indy then they must all vote for Brexit as that's the only way they will get a vote.....they'll have nothing to moan about if we vote to stay in.....funny old world....

Tories have to face a vote every 5 years.

Unelected officials have significant power in the UK, Blair often bypassed his own cabinet in favour of them.

The current govt 'special advisors' wage bill has increased by £6 million since 2010. Whitehall is packed full of civil servants who yield significant sway regardless of who is in government. So let's not pretend a cut from the EU will in instantly solve all our 'democracy' problems. The background of the higher ranking officials...well you can probably guess.
