The Everton Board Thread 2014/15

Is it time for change?

  • I'm happy with the way thing are. Kenwright and the Board should stay.

  • Kenwright and the board need to go. We need change.

Fella who lives over the road from me wrote and produced "That'll be the day", the musical. Lives off that very nicely thank you.

Exactly people who say Bill is not a good businessman might or might not have a case if they referred only to football. Bill certainly knows what he's doing in the theatre/film business. Of course we're only talking tens of millions here, not 100s of millions when talking football finance. I've said many times that Bills problem is that he tries to run Everton like a West End show, and ultimately it won't work because of the 100s of millions involved. Its a different playing field.

I stay firmly neutral Steve. Partly because I am not as clued up on the detail of all the stuff as some, and far removed down in Bristol so dont get the local info, so just leave it to you lot to "discuss" it/them.

But, saying that, this window will go a long way to proving/disproving some of the sticking points.

Just wished it didnt get as personal as it can do in this thread. And that is not in any way aimed at anyone in particular!

Well expressed opinion, but the bit about Bill gaining contacts for his core business is certainly not an issue of any consequence, and is hardly true. Investors in Bills theatrical and cinema ventures have always been known to him... there are plenty out there and if it was not Bill who spotted the niche market for touring productions of successful shows on a budget, it would have been someone else. They are certainly a different set of people than those who invest in football clubs, although the chance of making a fortune investing in the theatre is only fractionally better than investing in football. For every Phantom of the Opera there are a dozen 'Twangs' ( Lionel Barts failed and long forgotten musical about Robin Hood) Bill always knew the people that mattered. He found the money to make Stepping Out in 1991, and that film, along ongoing international stage productions of Educating Rita (since 1980 ,and always on somewhere in the world) are Bills pension.

Sorry mate I think you're being a tad naive. The idea of being regularly abused when results go bad or transfer targets go south just because he's a chairman who happens to be a fan while getting next to nothing in return just isn't credible.

Allegedly he takes nothing out of the club so what does he do it for?

There has to be vested interest it makes the world go around altruism is for billionaires they can afford it and bill ain't that. but if you know better than his biz bathing in the reflected glory of his Premiership Chairman status I'd be interested.

I personally knew a Chairman of a football club. Not PL, obviously. Thinking about it, he is a big fan, a local businessman, who put some money in. Hardly anything, but it covered a loan or something.

But his business certainly benefited from him being able to network with others in football. I know for a fact that one of the most senior people in football is a personal client of his, which given the team he supports, has a certain irony to it as well. He got years ago, but went in as a fan, used the position to improve his business, then got out. Well he is still on the board, but not the figurehead anymore.

His business is also a ST holder at Goodison.

Not naive ,just opinion based on facts that I know to be true. I see that the attack on Bill has now changed from 'using business connections made in football' to 'bathing in the reflected glory of his Premiership Club status' The former attack could be at least an opinion to which youre entitled to, but 'bathing in reflected glory' is maybe were the naivety comes in. Do you honestly think Bill K doesn't worry about Everton ? I've pm'd you with the reason I can't carry on with this at present...but I will do when I'm able.

All good mate, look forward to your return when you've sorted the matter you kindly explained. Remember Steve perspective at all times, it's only footy mate.

The only right things about this club come from the manager and fans. It's board are leeches and parasites. Please use the thread about how ace Kenwright if you disagree.

Look mate we are making money all over the place, last Summer we sold 40m worth of wasters, saved millions on wages and banked a tidy little profit from Sky, meanwhile Clubs like Arsenal are spending vast sums of money on talented footballers in order to progress, you dont know how lucky you are.

I really don't care for spending and that sort of vulgarity. I do care about Bill and how he mortgaged his arse/house/mum to save the club though. That's why I thought carefully about which thread to post in.

Well I enjoyed the sarcasm

Haha sad but true, except for the lucky part.

Was thinking today, we really should be spending upto 50million quid this pre-season, plus money recieved from any player sales. My logic is this, every team in the PL has had a cash windfall of 30 Million, sure enough they knew it was coming but it is still and additional amount of cash that goes to the club, when you consider our operating cost's must have been less last year than they were in previous years, what with players like Felli and Cheb's leaving, Felli being the highes earner, along with Moyes who was on more than what I assume Martinez was on last year. Add to that, that on the back of last seasons's 'sucsess' you would think that would inspire the club to back its new manager, so if the new TV money hadn't of come in what would the club supported Martinez with, plus with the surplus from the Felli, Anichebe and Jelavic deal's after allowing for incoming transfers and loan fee's which must have left us with a profit of 10 Million, adding another 10 Million as that's what should have been budgetted as this years 'war chest' to the kitty to make up the 50 including the recent TV windfall.

The question has to be, that as we know last season was achieved on last seasons revenue, which included the old TV money, and was in no way the TV money just recieved a benefit to us last season, If this new TV deal wasn't in place and we did as well as we did last season (which is possible and plausible) what would the board have supported Martinez with if we don't have a net spend above 30 this pre season.

I know its idealistic, but just for once, it would be for them to financially back A manager of our's without having to sell first.

Teams what have spent more money than Everton:

All of them

Seriously when a healthy percentage of Championship clubs seem to have more financial clout it may be time to reevaluate one's ability to run a club. Especially when that club has ambitions at the top end of the table.
