The Everton Board Thread 2014/15

Is it time for change?

  • I'm happy with the way thing are. Kenwright and the Board should stay.

  • Kenwright and the board need to go. We need change.

You won't see me in threads about the new kit and the crest etc. Unfortunately mate, without a decent board (this one is abysmal) the manager is financially hamstrung and no matter how good he is it will sooner of later catch up with him or he will leave.

What you do see in this thread from people who want to be "neutral" give the board "the benefit of the doubt" etc is a lack of knowledge such as thinking True Blue Holdings still exists, thinking Woods is as rich as Abramovic, and some that reckon they cringe everytime they tell a foreigner they support Everton (but these foreigners eyes apparently light up when LFC are mentioned).

I'd love to be "financially hamstrung" if it means I can afford a £28m signing. Agree there is some interesting "knowledge" on this thread though.

Im pretty sure I read at one time that the Reebok made as much money from corperate events as it did from hosting
football games and that isnt the besr positioned ground in the country

If you think about it, a modern stadium would have to be pretty rubbish to not make tons of money from the 330 odd days it isnt used for football really!

I have no idea about the sums involved, but Ashton Gate, ((Bristol City), another old, pretty crap ground, is used loads throughout the year. In the last few years it has had The Who, Neil Diamond, Bon Jovi, and some others as well for example.

Been there myself on corporate jollies, quiz nights, that sort of stuff.

It is difficult to see any investment case for investing (i) directly in Everton given the valuation placed on the club currently and (ii) investing in a stadium without a huge public subsidy.

Regrettable as it might be that's the harsh reality.

Have to agree at the present time. Champs League qualification may improve this.

Concerts, corporate events/meetings, weddings, other sports, (not keen on that one myself, but could be done), exhibitions, markets/car boot sales, lob a decent restaurant in it as well. You could utilise space under the stands for community sports halls/gym/bowling/cricket.

Just takes a bit of thought really.

Would we generally want a stadium that wasn't exclusively Everton?

How much of that profit actually goes back to the football club, tho'?

*Sniffs up*

Smells kopite

Sorry to hear about your hygiene issues. Having a shower and washing under your arms helps.

I dont know anything about Ashton Gate to be honest Roydo I was using the Reebok as its quite a new stadium and not best placed
and again I dont know how often Goodison is used for functions or corprate events, though being in a built up residential area Id assume
there would be numerous issues with regards concerts its just the whole set up at Everton seems to lack any forward thinking or imagination
and relies almost solely on matchday/TV money

Thats that new deodorant you're using.

I've seen it marketed in Asia. They're calling it Red Poop eau de Toilette.

Frankly, it's yet another example of how far behind our Board are in aggressively marketing our club name. I bet they've never even considered the idea.

They are redoing Ashton Gate soon.

You are right though about the Stadium being used all year. York City's stadium will have a retail complex and cinema on it.

So now we're blaming the board of 1892 for building Goodison Park in the wrong place?

Stadium placement is key, inner city with planning issues, but easy travel (except car). Or in the outer limits with public transport problems, and less suitable for events. No easy answer.

Dunno really. West Ham are not going to own the Olympic stadium are they? No idea how the ownership of Citeh's ground works either.

So if a new stadium was built nearby, and Everton were the main tenants, on a long lease or something, not sure if that makes us more attractive or not to those elusive investors.

I think us owning the stadium would make us more attractive, as it's a solid asset.
