The Everton Board Thread 2014/15

Is it time for change?

  • I'm happy with the way thing are. Kenwright and the Board should stay.

  • Kenwright and the board need to go. We need change.

They really ought to make the discount for restricted view seats more than a pound. £1 less doesn't even register when you have to sit behind a post.

Dholliday. We could fill it.

Don't worry about that

I hope so, mate. I think if we're regularly pushing top 4 and the Martinez factor continues to excite then there's a good chance.

However, investors will also have to think about the what-ifs. What if Martinez leaves, and we end up with a merry-go-round plodder, who secures us regular top 10 (a fantastic achievement for a club like Everton according to our longest-serving captain in history) and the odd cup run playing a defence-first pressure game.

Would we be back to 35k averages or would we really fill that 55k for those (perceived) dullard games?

The investor must consider this.

Read my post again...I said I was writing to him with a creative suggestion. I didn't say I was 'embarking on a business venture with him' I've never denied that I work in the entertainment business, but neither have I ever said that I know BK personally. Youre making it up...probably out of desperation because the guy you trawl the internet trying to dig dirt on because of your seedy obsession is actually getting some credit points on here. Surely you don't think that the thousands of people working in the entertainment industry in this country are all colleagues of Bill Kenwright?
I said, you've given the impression you are a colleague of Bill's in the past.

Here's what you said in the last year alone:

Having had dealings with BK in his day job, and knowing many who have dealt with him when he has his theatre/film producer hat on, I can see how it has been difficult to adapt his methods in his core industry to the business of football.
Steve Wigan, Mar 2, 2013

One thing I can tell you about Bill, based on his day job in the theatre...he is trusting and loyal to friends(the reason for his support of Barrymore) but when he turns he is absolutely ruthless.
Steve Wigan, Aug 3, 2013

He certainly isn't thick. Just ask anyone who has dealings with him in his day job. He's the toughest negotiator in the theatre business and if you lose his trust he is merciless.Transfering this demeanour to the business of football has always been Bills biggest problem. He can fight dirty if he feels the need. Just ask Gregg.
Steve Wigan, Aug 30, 2013

So I think from that Steve, though you might not be consciously aware of it, you do give people the view you're an associate of Kenwright's (and an associate of his associates). It's unsurprising, therefore, that anyone would believe you have his ear on matters and argue from a position of strength on the issue of his chairmanship of EFC.

I think we do, i know @dellboy thinks we don't due to the region. But, i go a few times a year to the corporate at Sunderland and its always rammed. Sunderland is not more affluent than Liverpool.

And, I'm sure i read recently that outside London, Liverpool has the fastest growing economy in England.

Liverpool is a genuinely world-famous city, and not just because of The Beatles. I cringe everytime I tell a foreigner I support Everton, and they have no idea who I'm talking about until I say "in the city of Liverpool". Their eyes light up in recognition of the RS.

Within England, Everton is a much-respected historical club but the younger Prem-era fan doesn't see us as big or glamorous. We'd have to bank on twenty-thousand extra Evertonians coming, rather than new fans. We may have over 100k match-willing Evertonians in the UK, and our Facebook has over 1m likes (seems a massive increase to a couple of years ago), so the chance is still good we can fill 55k every home game.

But the trick is to think like an investor. Someone who doesn't care about Everton like we do, who may barely care about football at all. What's the risk on his not getting his return back? How good are the chances of sizable profit on his investment? He has to analyse whether we can fill a bigger stadium, the answer from his perspective isn't that clear-cut.

*sigh*

God love's a trier.

Not really, Dave. The posts you quote gives the impression Steve may have met Bill a couple of times, and has spoken to people who know him better than he does.

It's a silly point to argue about anyway.

What are your thoughts on whether we could fill 55k every home game? Thought Experiment: we lose Martinez and a couple of special players, could we still fill 55k in the non-glamour games?

The "could we fill a 55000 every match" point is looking at it the wrong way.

A better question is, "what revenue does Goodison raise other than match days?" Not much I would guess.

A well positioned, well appointed stadium could generate cash all year round, not just on 25 days a year.

Agreed. Not the wrong way. A limited way.

How do you mean, mate? Maybe that it could host other events?

Concerts, corporate events/meetings, weddings, other sports, (not keen on that one myself, but could be done), exhibitions, markets/car boot sales, lob a decent restaurant in it as well. You could utilise space under the stands for community sports halls/gym/bowling/cricket.

Just takes a bit of thought really.

[Complete and utter rubbish.QUOTE="davek, post: 2902981, member: 1745"]I said, you've given the impression you are a colleague of Bill's in the past.

Complete and utter rubbish, sneaky, it doesn't give that impression at all. Most people in the entertainment industry talk about and have opinions about BK. I've already quoted practically verbatim the only(very brief) exchange I ever had with BK, and I've told you I've written to him with regard to business matters on a couple of occasions, and again recently, and to save you time trying to find some dirt to dish on me as well as BK, because your sneaky little life mission seems to be to do this, I'll repeat the story from a few years ago when I NEARLY had lunch with BK....it might well have happened but the party who was to take me along could not travel from the USA because of a serious family illness. Put that one in your sleazy little filing cabinet with all your other 'dirt'.You must have a lot of time on your hands if you can spend so much time searching the internet for simple information about people that your evil little mind can turn into 'dirt'. You remind me of someone else on Blue Kipper who used the same tactics...that excercise was just as useless as yours.
Admin; I'm sorry this has got personal, and apologise for the strong tone . I won't respond to any more of this rubbish on here, but will report any further personal intimidation directly, in accordance with forum rules. I just wish that people could just talk about Everton without personal attacks on people. I've tried to keep this light hearted and amusing, but enough is enough.

But the trick is to think like an investor.

It is difficult to see any investment case for investing (i) directly in Everton given the valuation placed on the club currently and (ii) investing in a stadium without a huge public subsidy.

Regrettable as it might be that's the harsh reality.

Im pretty sure I read at one time that the Reebok made as much money from corperate events as it did from hosting
football games and that isnt the besr positioned ground in the country

Changy however is more than willing to discuss a wide range of Everton related topics. This thread though is his spiritual home.

You won't see me in threads about the new kit and the crest etc. Unfortunately mate, without a decent board (this one is abysmal) the manager is financially hamstrung and no matter how good he is it will sooner of later catch up with him or he will leave.

What you do see in this thread from people who want to be "neutral" give the board "the benefit of the doubt" etc is a lack of knowledge such as thinking True Blue Holdings still exists, thinking Woods is as rich as Abramovic, and some that reckon they cringe everytime they tell a foreigner they support Everton (but these foreigners eyes apparently light up when LFC are mentioned).
