What's the familiar pattern; and if so why wasn't baines sold 3 years ago, or Coleman 2 years ago or Mccarthy last year.

It's drip-feed. Throw one player out every now and then, bring some in with the proceeds, trust the mgmt recruitment (incidentally the jury still out on RM). They know they'd get a mutiny selling every year and that it didn't match the image of the Club they try to portray.

Selling Stones and actually giving the money to Martinez to spend isn't a massive black eye on the board. It's upsetting, but if he can get 2-3 players in that he really wants with the money then there is at least a business reason that makes sense for the sale

Mickey I agree with that to an extent, if Martinez got all the money from the Stones transfer to buy players most people would go along with that, but that begs the question where is all this years sky money. With the sky money and any money we get from the Stones deal you would expect to see about 60m ( that may be a bit optimistic ) in the coffers lets just see what we spend.

Why would that be optimistic. An extra 25m sky money and 35m from Stones.

Selling Stones and then hoarding the money would be the moment where I, and no doubt a lot of others, would finally turn on this board for good[2]

[1]It won't happen, so stop kidding yourself it would. How many more examples will people need in future before they finally cotton on to what's been happening for the last 10 years or more? The business reason is not for strengthening the team. It is to service an almost perpetual debt accumulated by this board. There should already be money left from Tv rights & previous transfer activity to at least be able to buy Yarmolenko - or pay the best part of the asking fee.

[2] It'll turn a few more against them; probably those who are already mildly disgruntled but not enough just yet be fully malcontent. However there'll still be those that'd put Job to shame. Not through patience or rectitude, mind, more their obstinacy, their point-blank refusal to learn, and them being some sort of snobs who think that any sort of open scepticism or criticism of the board is kopite behaviour.

It's these people - through their abject failure to grasp the nettle - that have abetted & facilitated the bad business model this club has adopted, and to a certain degree, the reason we find ourselves in this predicament.

Great post. How people defend this board is laughable

All they have to do is refuse the request and buy a £15m player. That's it.

I'd forgive them all their trespasses. Clean slate.

It'd take somewhat more than that to mollify me, I'm afraid.

I wouldn't give them any kudos for turning down a very late transfer request - especially when there's no practical need to sell; and most certainly wouldn't for spending money that ought to be available anyway.

We'll still be in debt and still have the same woefully inefficient business model as before, even if both those things happened.

Fair points well made.

I'd see it as a fresh start and hope the rest is coming

If I thought for one minute that the sale of stones would see the end of kenwright woods earl and green I would settle for that whatever needs to be done to rid our club and I mean OUR club please get rid of these liars, fraudsters out now

Havn't you heard?.. Not selling Stones is the boards fault now.. as opposed to selling him.
Sorry I purposefully stayed away form the forum last night after hearing the news - couldnt handle the melt down.

I think you might misunderstand me, I am not a anti kenwright person in the slightest so what you say "how many of you" thats not really my bag - I am purely pro Everton. I think thats why I am trying to understand mindsets of no matter what happens Bill always gets supported, because surely we should all be under the same umbrella of trying to better our club, because the club is the only thing which matters.

The problem from the other side of the bush is the current custodians have left themselves open to ridicule through all the failures and lack of investment.

You mention above the slow uptake might be because of the on pitch performance, while i agree to some extent, I am still not convinced its purely that. Will we still clap the board if John Stones goes? Was it Johns Decision? Was it the clubs? I have absolutely no idea, but we are in a different position now then where we were in 2004. Surely, we should be ambitious enough to keep our top talent now and if progress is to be carried on on the pitch are we going to successfully do that if we sell our top talent and not reinvest in the squad?

I say that last bit purely because we have been in the position many times before, we will 100% not invest every penny of what John Stones goes for. If we did, that would be one less thing to beat the board with, but we wont, history tells us this.

What happened if John was waiting for us to make a sign of intent, that we where going to take our progress on the pitch and sign a player to challenge the top 4? I'd do that if i was a player who didn't support the club.

We have made progress on the pitch, there is no doubt about that - but the players we have are because of players we sold. and plenty of wheeling and dealing by Martinez, and Moyes before.

I still hold the opinion, Moyes was the best thing to happen to the board, he single handedly kept the wolves at bay because of his performances in the league with the squad he had - no one wanted to rock the boat.

Still, there are so many other things the board should be beaten with - Stadiums, investment, 24/7 searches, lack of commercial accumen, the merchandising issues many more. Too many failed promises now to sit here and say they have fulfilled them. I like bill, i have said it plenty of times - he is a character and knows what he is doing - but he and the rest of them (in particular bob) needs to move on now.

Agree with nearly all of that, I don't buy into this whole theory that our players don't want to leave to join the premier league champions league teams for massive pay increases, and are instead, in some way blackmailed into making a transfer request they don't want, and then release statements after they leave about why they handed in transfer requests like Arteta did, just so they can leave for a club they don't want to join or whatever the concept is, doesn't make any sense to me.

Also I tried to make my post generalising, didn't mean to be you specific, slip of context, I still think that on pitch performance has more sway than any other aspect and that is why Kenwright still gets support. So yeah, if we sell Stones, invest 20m back into the team and improve, he will likely get more support than BU.

People don't realise how easily we could have better on field performance with an upgrade to an average board though
