That's because they finish higher up the league than us and therefore play more ugh profile games, not because they've got more fans in the U.S.

It's all about winning.
We've been in and aroun them league position wise many times over the years and im pretty sure we're sinilar in anount of games broadcast on tv, yet their commercial deals blow ours out the water, their kit manufacturer is an American company aswell

They make more money than us. Without winning a thing. They have a much broader support base. Without winning a thing.

They don't make more money than us because they're popular in the U.S. though, it's not that much of a game changer. They've done well in the league the last 8-10 years and finished high up in the top positions.

Since 2004/2005:
9th, 5th, 5th, 11th, 8th, 4th, 5th, 4th (missed CL), 5th, 6th, 5th.

Us in the same time period:
4th, 11th, 6th, 5th, 5th, 8th, 7th, 7th, 6th, 5th, 11th.

We really aren't terribly different here. Not to the extent you're suggesting at least.

It could well be - as you seem to be hinting at - that the Stones affair has not only been used in an immediate sense to deal with building off-field anger, but also offers the owners a way of repositioning themselves as old guard patrons standing steadfast against the vulgarities of the modern game.

Just to further emphasize this point, this narrative will continue to grow - here's further quotes from Martinez yesterday:

“As a club we have the player and we can say we are keeping him. We know the pressure that will bring and that is why the chairman deserves incredible credit.

Any chairman would look at any financial deal as an opportunity to do things but our chairman has done what any Evertonian would do and made the right decision for the football club, not for the financial aspect. Any chairman would put his manager into a big problem if he sold one of the club’s biggest assets at this stage of the window, and that happens. But our chairman has been very clear and very strong.

It is no good thinking that because you have a Champions League budget you’re going to click your fingers and get anything you want because clearly we don’t work like that.”

I think that quote probably just highlights the internal struggle that would be natural. Kenwright more than likely wante
I was being ironic!

But you are right. And it just so, so frustrating. This US lack of marketing/imagination is one of the main things that get me fuming. The answers to it are literally on a plate.

It reminds me of those folk on Dragons Den who invent a brilliant device to solve a problem that doesnt really exist, then some blokes come in and present a dead simple gadget that is so obvious you go "why didnt I think of that ffs?"

Everton in the US is the dead simple, and obvious market to go for imo.
It costs a fortune to market in the US since it's a really big place and you are competing with US sport who have a huge budget. Any marketing spend would have to come from transfer money so would you prefer 10m to be spent in the US on marketing or a new player?

You've avoided answering the simple question I asked.

What do you propose that they do that would be cost effective and get to their target audience? It's a piece of piss to sit there saying they've done nothing.

Knock out a 45 minute Doco on Everton. Doesn't have to be detailed in particular, just cover the main points.
Everton 4th most successful team in England... Historied, Goodison Park, Dixie Dean, Holy Trinity, Peoples Club, Ross + Rom + Stones + Del growing young team playing exciting footy, McBride + Howard + Donovan on Everton.

Pitch to NBC or ESPN.

Done.

I barely use Twitter myself.

WT has been very good at drawing attention to information already in the public domain, from public records.

I would advise him to stick to that as he starts to get less accurate when he expresses opinions rather than facts.

How can you say his opinions are inaccurate as his opinions are his own thoughts on whatever the subject is.

As I said to him on twitter he's free to say whatever he wants. However in my opinion, he serves more purpose and is more effective by just bringing facts to light than he does by expressing opinions which are not always accurate.

By doing this he dilutes the very powerful message the facts themselves send.

It is always more difficult to defend facts rather than opinions.

Like I said its his view, his thoughts, his opinion.

Not yours.

I tend to agree. All he needs to do is dump the facts out with minimum explanation of context and let them speak for themselves. They're powerful enough. The rhetoric merely allows a counter narrative to take hold which he responds to and allows it deflect away from the point of the exercise.

Just do a wikileaks and apologists cant get a grip on it.

This is exactly right.

The facts speak very clearly for themselves.

There's too much juvenile bile mixed in with the considered criticism of the board, and it turns the level-headed majority of our fan base off.

The repeated communication of cold facts, in an adult manner, are all that's needed to swing the opinion of the fan base. I'm convinced of it.

They're not too level headed then if a few random opinions they don't like colour their judgement on the facts this guy is listing.
