nah, after the World Cup when WE(the supporters) kept on flooding ideas to them on how to improve our image over in the States, according to Elstone its 'not really worth the investment'. Because 300million people who, i would gamble 95% have no affiliation to any team, with disposable income, isn't worth any type of attempt to make inroads.

It really makes you wonder if the people running this are intentionally trying to lower the profile of the club, they are THAT inept.

never mind the world cup, the opportunity was when Donovan was a blue. He's still the only household name in US soccer and we missed a trick big time.

Who did the club's market study--Ted Wells?

Like i said, a case could even be made for them to be malicious in their ineptitude. They are ACTIVELY sucking at owning a club, to be THIS bad for THIS long makes me wonder if they are trying to be. Even once in awhile you'd stumble across something good!

I think it's a cultural issue, to be honest. The English game has changed and won't revert, and each club has approached this differently. I don't know how best to describe it, but I think @RaleighBlue put it best in that Everton are like the "mom and pop store," a throwback amidst a sea of brand-whoring conglomerates. I like much of what the club does in this regard--Everton are a family, from the community and supporting the community, but the club doesn't seem to have any idea how to keep this nature and market the brand to the worldwide audience. This is the disconnect that's disappointing to me--this idea that nothing need be done (or can be done). The Everton brand will not sell in every market. I don't think it will ever do well in Asia, for instance, but that doesn't mean it shouldn't be marketed--especially in those markets in which it could sell.

I could be totally off-base, but it seems to me that Elstone/Kenwright/et al., think there is one way to do things, the Everton way, and while their steadfastness in many ways protect's the club's brand, their lack of vision limits the club's natural growth.

*Edit to clarify: I don't think Everton need to change the brand. The Everton brand is very good. It needs to be affirmatively marketed.

Slightly off from your friend, the numbers show nationalities and grounds visited, but did not show which nationalities visited which grounds. See below

http://www.theguardian.com/football/2015/sep/10/overseas-fans-premier-league-games-high-800000

Number of overseas fans at Premier League games rises to 800,000
• ‘Football tourists’ contribute £684m to economy, says new research
• Fans groups concerned that trend will push ticket prices still higher

The number of overseas fans visiting England to watch Premier League matches rose to 800,000 last year, contributing a collective £684m to the economy, according to new research.

Though most of the visitors were from the Republic of Ireland (121,000), the league also drew 93,000 from Norway, 58,000 from Sweden and 53,000 from the US.

Manchester United [edit: and Arsenal] were the most popular destinations, with Old Trafford and the Emirates both receiving 109,000 international visits last year. Liverpool rank not far behind on 99,000, with 89,000 visiting Chelsea, 51,000 Wembley, 40,000 Tottenham, 33,000 Manchester City, and 30,000 Fulham’s Craven Cottage.

The research, undertaken on behalf of VisitBritain by the Office for National Statistics, also indicated that football-related tourism is responsible for one in 10 visits to the north-west, and one in 20 trips to the north-east.

The overall £684m economic gain represents a 15% rise – or an increase of £89m – compared to when the research was last conducted in 2010, when 50,000 fewer overseas fans visited.

While Richard Scudamore, the Premier League’s chief executive, welcomed the numbers as “very encouraging”, some fans groups remain concern that increasing demand will serve to drive up ticket prices still further. Last season fans staged organised
protests against prices
in the Premier League, while a Guardian survey this month found adult prices in the Championship will regularly surpass £35 – with Sheffield Wednesday charging £52 for certain games.

Sean Bones, the Manchester United Supporters Trust vice-chairman, told the BBC: “It’s good for the country when additional funds come into the economy but we need clubs to reward the long-term loyalty of our supporters.”

Tracey Crouch, the tourism minister, welcomed the figures as proof of “the positive role football is playing in showcasing key destinations in many different regions … It’s great for local economies, great for football and great for the UK’s tourism industry.”

Fulham drew as many as City, which tells me that many people are watching matches while in London. Not arsed about that myself (as an American, I'd love to visit Craven Cottage if I had the chance.)
Ya true didnt think of that angle.i still think the club are missing big opportunities to expand in ireland especially with the irish lads playing with us at the min.not many places even stock our jersey.they are few and far between.could they not play one game in pre season here seen how its only a half hour flight

I can't even get boys home GK socks for my kid to full kit as Howard (his choice, not mine). You'd think the club would be all over this opportunity, but when I email kitbag the response I get is "this item (boys home GK socks) is a seasonal item and may not return to stock."

It's david maddock ffs.

Never forget that the pr1ck wrote this libellous tripe and is still employed by trinitymirror

Yeah apparently a group of fans questioning Kenwright outside his car was worthy of coming first in that article above a player who suffered 'some sort of abuse' (couldn't call the mighty reds racist could he) at Anfield. Yeah because those two things are comparable. It was alright though because a couple of Liverpool fans wrote a letter afterwards excusing a whole swathe of their fan base whilst a load of our fans stopped the few who were heckling Kenwright. Yes, those two stories are entirely comparable, well done Dave.

Just a bit of balance.. They got a lot wrong, but they got quite a bit right too.

CBA with any more, hopefully you get the point, there are plenty of awards earnt and nice touches that the club have done that deserve a little credit, even if stumbled on by accident..
But much of it has come about through significant amounts of hard work.

Of course the against column is just as significant, but then no one is claiming otherwise.
