I think the concept of "going concern" applies here , even though it is not a term generally associated with football clubs.

The club will be bought as a going concern and remaining in the premiership is fundamental to the future of the club as a profitable going concern, as it is to all premiership clubs.
Cashing in on players would be the football equivalent of asset stripping a business.
there is little doubt that the sale of half a dozen of our most valuable players would nearly fund a new stadium , but would we be able to fill it in the championship or league one ?

Remaining in the Premiership and continuing to earn the enormous sums that are now available is the golden prize. Selling assets that might alter that cannot easily be considered. When we receive bids for players like Stones, Barkley or Lukaku , the question will be about how much could we potentially lose by selling them rather than what could we gain.

I see, you're taking the view that he only needed to do enough for us to survive.

I don't think that's good enough. But it's all just opinions I suppose.

Neither do I, nor have I ever said it is. You see wrong.
I have never said he should stay. Nor that he deserves to.

Those were the days, unfortunately now :coffee:

Nice quote...even if he was a hare lipped sectarian gimp.

Why did he not need to get Kings Dock right then?

Because we still made progress without Kings Dock.

If he was to stay in power, he needed to stay in the premiership, the reason we can buy 28m strikers is not because we bought a new stadium, but because he chose the right manager, who bought in players, sold them, bought better improved them etc and kept us in the premier league.

You have jumped in half way through a conversation I think, I was saying that the reason your average non internet dwelling Evertonian is not all for 'Kenwright out', is potentially because we made progress under him as chairman, regardless of the stadium scenario, most people are happy to sit in Goodison with two of our 3 record signings on the pitch, Stones still there, and a strong bench, especially if we win the game and do it playing well.

Because of that, and where we were - pre Kenwright the chariman , I'm going to go ahead and say people outside the forums don't give f.. about lawnmowers etc.. and yeah Kings Dock would of been nice years ago, but I doubt most supporters even think about it anymore ..

I'd suggest (I obviously don't know) that they don't really care about other operating costs, renting our world class training facilities instead of buying, what sort of structure the catering is in.. its about 90 minutes at Goodison, or at the pub or at home, its about producing players like Barkley, Stones, Duffy, Browning etc, its about buying McCarthy, Fellaini, Lukaku and like it or not, those 90 minutes and those players have dramatically improved under the chairman... That's likely to be why they frown at the planes telling Kenwright his only legacy is failure... because overall, where it truly matters.. it simply isn't.

His legacy will be pitch side progress, but because of the managers.. he chose. The one decision he had to get right to keep the majority on side.

If he bought a stadium it would be even better and the protests likely wouldn't be happening, but if he then bought in the wrong manager, we'd be in real trouble, stadium or not, because instead of arguing over the significance of a new stadium to our awesome TV deal etc, which actually may not of had many significant gains anyway.. We would likely be relegated and in real trouble.

Now you and I know better about Knerights failings, but my point was that the general populace probably dont, probably don't care either, as long as there are continuing signs of improvements.

so your earlier response was that Kings Dock wasn't crucial to our survival, but when pulled up on it you've changed your response to it wasn't critical to our progress? ok

as for me jumping in partway through a conversation, it's an opinions forum so I'll jump in where I like thanks

and people are happy to sit in goodison, well they haven't really got a choice for sitting elsewhere if they want to go the match have they ?

Kenwright needed to get Kings Dock right, he very much got it wrong.

Your just being argumentative and that response doesn't even make sense. Kings dock wasn't crucial to either.

You jump in where you want, but you've still got the wrong end of the wrong stick because of it.

ps you seem quite angry at me for some reason.

Unless we had a serious scare of relegation Blue Bill and his cronies are safe as houses. The average fan just isn't bothered.

Probably about right Charlie
Even two seasons in a row in the bottom half would probably cause some defectors, but its not happened since before Moyes so I think generally most are content that we are doing okay (comparatively). Many possibly holding onto the, remember what it was like before Bill was chairman thought process as well which won't help.

you got pulled up on your nonsense and decided to change your tune, good for you though

best of luck for the future

Bill is the perfect (or rather worst) chairman possible for us in so many ways.

He plays to our sense of loyalty and tribalism. There is no other genuinely historic major club like us that have had to put up with 25 years of tripe (forget the 95 cup - it was a fluke).

For us to be Blues today we've basically all either had it drummed into our DNA from birth or the newer element have made a positive decision to move away from the Sky elite. We hold our history dear to us and with that comes an innate sense of integrity and loyalty. In a million years a majority of the fan based isn't going to turn on cuddly old Bill with his charming media persona and boyhood tales.

The only remotely comparable clubs to us are Leeds, Spurs and Villa in terms of having to put up with crap for so long. However, in their own way, they've been inconsistent for greater periods which has bred a more brittle relationship between fan and club.

We're stuck with Bill until he gives it up. We just have to make the most of it.
