Playing devils advocate here. I don't back the board any more than anyone else do.

But................

Despite the off the field business issues / stadium etc Is what the baord have done over the past 5 years positive in reagrds to the team? As much as we all want us to spend millions of pounds every window on some foreign talent the club right now isn't selling their players. The board are therefore backing the manager by basically saying to him you build a team and you keep the team. The board more than 5 years ago sells stones to chelsea and may invest the money back in but have still sold stones. Now we go and win a trophy or get top 4 for example and stones can turn around and say 'you know what, i'll stay'. The difference being martinez then has his centre half for the enxt 10 years commited to his cause rather than having one eye on the money.

Digressed a little but my point is, for every spending club you get one that sells on the squad as well. What cost do you value being one of the only clubs who can not only back their manager but also not sell their players anymore? The past is the past and the board have made mistakes there, but right now, and for the future, we aren't chasing the money.

As i said i am not defending the board, just simply thinking out loud.

They've done nothing to advance our commercial arm or build brand power in developing markets, have not invested in the squad or sorted the obvious stadia issue. The club is under capitalised and every year pays interest on loans that provide us with the money to do basic upkeep, adding to our debt.

Stability is one thing, but if you stand still long enough, you stagnate and get swallowed up by the chasing pack.

See all that is true, and i didn't want to bring up old ground. I just meant from a directly on pitch management the board have learned a few lessons and the fact that we aren't selling our players now, i mean 2 years without any first team squad member sold, only released is a little bit encouraging for the future. Granted if a player who isnt the top tier asked to leave we probably would do but at the minute signing younger players and releasing the older ones is a sound business strategy, especially when the older ones bring the wage bill down every time they leave

But the board isn't making the decisions on the pitch. That's coming from the manager, his focus being to build something.
The board give him the money to work with and the security of his job, that's it really.

Considering this is the exact same board who has sold players in the past to pay bills, there has been a significant improvement in that side of things. i know it is down to the tv money increasing rather than their brilliance, but they haven't made any knee jerk reactions either ala leeds/villa.

I think this has construed away from my point, i am not saying the board is great because they haven't sold our players. I am just suggesting that at the very least, they are giving the manager a good platform to do his job.

Nothing has changed because of the board, it's changed in spite of the board.
The one good thing that Bill has been able to do is hire good managers, and back the managers that he hires.
If we make it into Europe on a consistent basis with this lot in charge it will be in-spite of and not because of the board, we over perform on the pitch compared to the shambles we are off the pitch.

I agree with that sentiment yeah, I'm pretty sure the board were shocked when we came 4th all those years ago, they knew they coudn't back moyes until he got there, which created a catch 22 for us sadly. Deep down they probably hoped we were demoted for liverpool, no money to invest means a failure either way (5-1 Beaucarest?)

Not all clubs are lucky enough to find mega rich owners...unfortunately.

Everton were a club in serious decline and before it could move forward it had to stop moving backwards.
This is where the stability brought to the club over a decade ago was so important.
The board picked a bright young manager in David Moyes and stuck with him through good times and bad.
He was allowed to build a team and to build the club into a stable position.
A lot of clubs would not have given their manager as much freedom and as much backing as David Moyes got.
The board deserve credit for that.

When David Moyes left I think the board recognised the club needed something different and for that reason appointed a character totally different to the previous manager in Roberto Martinez. This is still a work-in-progress but the signs are promising.

The next phase needs to be new stadium and/or new owners.
I think we may get both , but, again time will tell.

Ii dunno i feel personally like there are now a lot of cogs turning behind the scenes ans something is definetley being done, its just a matter of when imo.

....you could be right but 3 weeks ago the indication was something would be announced in a fortnight. As you say, these things inevitably take a while to tie up and Joe Anderson's 'New Year' milestone might be accurate.

Three ago and the Americans who people thought may be the ones to buy out the board turned out, on their own admission, it wasnt them.

But they did say, which the BBC reported, that there were other looking to buy the shares.

Three weeks have passed and given the BBC had that juicy morsel to get their investigating journos onto it and guess what, not a peep.

To be fair, the yanks did say they expected something to happen in the next few months.

Was mentioned on ToffeeTV on YouTube with PED and Jonathan Northcroft from The Times that there's something happening behind the scenes at Everton regarding a change of ownership.

It's at the 30min mark...

I think every footy journalist who covers Everton know about BK's problems and are putting two and two together.
