Apologies if this has been covered earlier in this thread but Is it actually true that Bill re-mortgaged his house to buy Everton? I've heard the story several times before but always thought of it as being one of those 'boys pen' type stories which is told to reinforce the myth that he is the biggest blue on the planet.

If it is true he must have one hell of a house if he could re-mortgage it to buy a majority shareholding in a premier league football club.

It only formed a small part of the funds he needed iirc. He borrowed most of the money to purchase his shareholding off Anita Gregg.

At the end of the day it is money borrowed to pay towards an investment which he would have expected to grow in value over time. So it's not really that much of a sacrifice really. It's pretty much what the man in the street would do if he wanted to borrow money off the bank to start up a business.

My comment was about the brain donor Nil Satis was referring to, some loon that rang in to a phone in saying blues can't comment unless they remortgage their houses...

There full on morons people who come out with rubbish like that, yeah go on ill remortgage my house, will pay Baines wages for a week, fat lot of good that would do on the grand scheme of things. Typical comment from someone who has nothing to say but wants to geg in on the conversation.

Everton manager Roberto Martinez says the club needs unity after fans staged a fly-past protest against chairman Bill Kenwright and the Toffees board.

A plane carrying a banner reading: 'Kenwright & Co #time to go NSNO,' flew over St Mary's Stadium during Everton's 3-0 win at Southampton on Saturday.

"I just heard about it," Martinez said afterwards. "I never saw it.

"We need to be together, help each other and push in the same direction because that makes a difference."

The Toffees supporters who organised the protest are from newly formed group '@EvertonBoardOUT', plus 'The Blue Union' and fan website 'School of Science'.

They are unhappy with the level of the investment in the team and the direction of the club under the current regime.

The slogan 'NSNO' on the plane's banner refers to the club's Latin motto of 'Nil satis nisi optimum' which translates to mean 'Nothing but the best is good enough'.

School of Science editor Joe Jennings told the Daily Mirror on Friday: "The time has come for Bill Kenwright to accept that his performance as chairman has been unacceptable and to let go of the club."

But Martinez gave his backing to Kenwright, who has been on the club's board since 1989 and chairman since 1999.

After seeing his side see off Saints with an impressive away performance, Martinez added: "I will never shy away: we are a big club, we've got a big history and an incredible expectation.

"But as a manager and as football players we understand that, we embrace those expectations and the way to get everyone excited and happy is performing in the manner we did on the pitch.

"The chairman is an incredible Evertonian, who has done a fantastic job over the years. Only he knows the effort he had to put in for the football club."

I think it's an urban myth.
As some have said, it wasn't worth near enough to cover the cost of his investment - and he's been steadily adding the odd share or two here and there for years.

Also, I may have seen something from a banker with less than the ideal amount of scruples, who basically checked his address and the financial claim on the property to utterly dis-prove it was remortgaged. Obviously the banker was an Everton fan, as his reading of the financial figures of the club before and after the TBH takeover was that it was a leveraged buyout, and that Bill "and friends" put the whole amount onto the club. This they did before the Glazers got their hands on Man U, and obviously the amounts were radically different, but it does seem that Everton's net debt position swung south by around £20-25m in the year after TBH acquired it, and nobody noticed.

I think it's a myth, he is a showman and adds spice to the stories.

If you believe he did remortgage, do you still believe the money for kings dock is ring fenced? The cheque from the sports fortress avengers is still on its way? Goodison will fail it's safety certificate soon?

Damned if they do, damned if they don't.

If we'd lost today, the fans would have been blamed.
Now that we won, it's calls for unity.

The plane protest was about the board, not the players or manager. It didn't affect the players performance today, so it can't be that much of a distraction.

You see thats were the pro board people are so far up their rear orifice that they refuse to remember that Kenwright, given that he is speaking on behalf of the board (last but one AGM), avowed aim is to bring monies into the club.

This is were the parting of the ways happens because all the anti groups firmly believe that they, the board members, are lying to the match going Evertonian as there is very little evidence that they are serious with that goal.

So when people say, Martinez included, we all should pull in the same direction it should never be forgotten that the direction is towards the signpost labelled 'FOR SALE - NEW OWNERS DEPERATELY WANTED'.
