40mil and Moyes would likely see us battle evenly for 4th for a season as Moyes would inevitably buy better than those around him, as he does every year, we'd need to spend the same year on year for a while though if we wanted to stay thereabouts and it would still be a tough fight with any one of 4 or 5 teams getting that 4th spot.

Of course that is the case. But cracking the top 4 is a different kettle of fish, just going off the actual history of how it has panned out over very recent years.

Spurs have cracked the top 4 & they've spent around £8M net in the last 5 years.

Saying it'd cost £200M for us to achieve it from our current starting position is nonsense imo.

I still love Everton, but I don't care anymore.

It would take a serious investment into the team of at least 200m to even be able to compete in the top 4, such is the gap now.

Then we just become "one of them"...the clubs that screwed football. Hated and loathed by proper football fans out of a mixture of jealousy and their own self pity.

It's all lose / lose.

I'd just like to see Kenwright disappear back to theatre land obscurity. Definitely a win.

Whoever's in charge of blagging the fans is a lazy [Poor language removed]. Every year they leak the same story to coincide with season ticket renewal forms going out, with the only difference being the fictional investor's nationality.

Youre aware that every year fans create these stories aren't you? When was the lsat time it was on the os or out of Bills mouth?
Seriously why would anyone buy ST's on the back of this, it simply makes no sense.

It makes sense for Everton to leak takeover rumours around season ticket renewal time because if they don't at least pretend that a sale is on the horizon then everyone will know for certain that there'll be no money to strengthen the team yet again this summer.

I don't see why fans would create these stories. They don't benefit us at all.

Agreed 100%. Of course it's not the board leaking these stories. That makes no sense. It's not as if season tickets are about to run out is it? And if it were the board leaking this then all it does is increase the questioning of why the club hasn't sold.

Its exactly the same lack of logic that applies to the other claims that Kenwright is a puppet for Philip Green etc and is holding out for a mega multi-hundred million sale price and knocking back countless realistic offers. Absolute crap - Green runs his companies with a rod of iron where every penny counts. I have dealings with them on a fairly regular basis and they'll go to town over a small amount of cash. IF Green was pulling the strings he'd cash out at the first sight of a half-decent return on his money. Always.

It makes sense to you that a fan would only renew his season ticket if he reads a rumor of a potential takeover on an obscure website?
Really?

Again I find myself almost 'supporting' the board when it's the last thing I want to do but I've said for years where does it help them to leak a story ? I could see a one-off type leak or rumour could be used to undermine a protest group like the BU or to derail a groundswell of opinion but to use it as a tactic would surely be an example of ineptitude beyond the grasp of this bunch of amateurs ? All it does is increase the anti-bill fervour and allow (probably accurate ) stories of his financial demands to circulate .

This board are in my opinion inept and are doing a poor job , at best , of 'running ' our football club but to me lumping everything against them just undermines the strong position those opposed to the current regime have.

Anyway Just my opinion

Agreed. Assuming all things being equal (which never seems to be the case in the Prem) you likely wouldn't need 200m but you'd probably need more than the 40m suggested here. Spurs (according to you) did it with 40m net on transfers and likely a good amount extra on wages too. I found figures for 10/11 which puts their wages at 91m p/a. So over five years, combining wages and transfers, that would be approx. 100m over what we spend.

Also remember Spurs were trying to break into a CL chasing pack with one less team than we would be (because Spurs themselves are now in it). That does make a difference to how hard it might be to break into the CL.

All-in-all, without some very good fortune, I think 20m extra for transfers/wages p/a (sustained increase which holds every year not just a one-off) is about right to mount a consistent challenge (assuming it is spent in a Moyes-y way and not immediately set on fire in a RS way). (Since everyone is getting extra TV money you might adjust these figures to account for everyone having more money and therefore everyone spending more -- meaning you'd have to spend 20m extra + TV money -- but it's generally close enough.)

I doubt anyone would buy a season ticket based solely on takeover rumours, but as our friends at Tesco say, 'every little helps.'

As the leaked Ian Ross emails proved, this board goes to great lengths to mislead the fans, which it why it seems more than a little suspicious when takeover rumours surface around the same time every year.

Trivia question

Anyone know the last public statement from our leader ?
Or would anyone like to guess what he will announce in his next ?
