Yep that's right, if we stopped being defensive like against Norwich where we bought on Mirallas and lost, or Wigan where we started 2 up front, we would definitely beat the billionaire teams to the CL spots.
If only he hadn't tried to motivate his team by saying they were the best bunch he had had and instead said they were hopelessly poor we would be in at least 3rd.
If only he hadn't told Jelavic to keep missing sitters we'd probably be winning the league,
But mostly we could save 40mil if other teams simply realized that as we are Everton we have a divine right to win games... I blame Moyes rather than Kenwright for not moaning how unfair it is that opposition teams also play against us instead of letting us score. Its just out of order.
Since that isn't going to happen then I reckon we still need 40mil a year + from the new owners and that's simply not going to happen because of ffp.

Great spirited post. Respect ! The point I was making was that if we play to our potential we can compete. For example if we had not dropped at least, lets say 8 points by being negative when holding a narrow lead, we would be fighting close to 4th than we are . In fact I don't think we are out of the running for 4th, if we go on a good winning run. £40 million would certainly not guarantee you a striker that wouldn't lose his touch, or get 'lost' in Moyes system, nor would it guarantee a defender who wouldn't regularly do a 'Heitinger'.

Lol, get back to bluekipper, coaching goals out of strikers, apart from michu, in recent times, what striker has not cost multi millions. You pay for what you get, ask alan ferguson. He has spent next to nothing assembling the squad he has currently .....

That the fella who runs the lobster?

I think we need to pick up a lot of wins from the next 10 games to be challenging for 4th. Prob need to win 8 of them at least. If we had won 4 of the games that we drew it would be a whole different matter. Very frustrating because (united apart) the league is wide open this year in terms of champs league. An investment of £20 mill in transfers in the summer and we could have been looking at 2nd or 3rd place. As it is we'll finish 6th or 7th due to injuries and loss of form.

You talk about fulfilling our potential.. Honestly I think Moyes does. Can I ask how much potential do you think a squad containing Osman, Hibbert, Neville, Naismith, Oviedo, out of form players like Heittinga and Jelavic actually contains? How much would you expect us to improve with no spend next summer as well? What level do you see this team at because it sounds like you think we should be comfortably top 4.

As for 40mil, youre right, it wouldn't guarantee anything except a bigger squad of first team players to choose from.
Its not hard with 40mil to get a better reserve than Naismith for example, its not hard to imagine 40mil spent by Moyes would of got us more points either.
It is however hard difficult to build a team that can outclass Spurs, Chelsea, City, Arsenal and Liverpool on negative spend over the course of a whole season to secure a CL place.

Osman is a current England international. Is experienced as anyone and gives his all every game. The likes of Hibbert, Neville and Oviedo are decent enough squad players either offering experience or potential in the case of the latter.

Heittinga and Jelavic are different beasts. Someone somewhere rates Johnny or he wouldn't have played in a World Cup Final. Jelly is class and that will be shown tomorrow.

So let me get this right. You're criticising Moyes for not grasping 4th spot due to his tactics, but ignoring the fact that he's developed a squad capable of even getting close to a challenge for 4th on a budget of £10m net in a decade?

Not exactly the level of options available that our rivals has is it? Osman's good but he's no Hazard, players in poor form are poor players when on the pitch, and the three decent squad players wouldn't get near our rivals squads.
I love this squad but Moyes is at a massive disadvantage on those around and some money would make all the difference. I just don't think a change of mindset from Moyes would get us 4th.

Disagree mate.

I'm not putting us in there with United and City or even Chelsea that are there trying to win the league and the champs league.
I think most if not all of those players mentioned would get into the squads of Spurs, Arsenal and the sh!te. The only one there'd be a doubt over would be Hibbert but that's only because no other club could value him like we do!

Haha, what part would the likes of Naismith and Neville play in Spurs squad?

As much as we've ridiculed Liverpool even their squad is superior to ours, and it would shock me if we finish above them again next year.

Moyes gets the best out of the bunch we've got. There's a core of about 13 players who are capable of making a push for that 4th spot, outside of that we're ridiculously short.

Not so long ago Harry wanted to sign Neville for Spurs !

This.

I don't want to inflame all the Kenwright haters in this thread but it's something I've always struggled with. What benefit is there to Kenwright and his minions if Everton aren't a succesful club? Surely, it would be better for everyone (fans, club, managment, players etc) if we were winning stuff all the time?

This is why I find it so hard to grasp the idea that they are not spending just to benefit themselves. Surely nothing would benefit them more than investing into the club so we can buy better players and thus challenge for more silverware?

Coupled that with the fact that I think Kenwright has a genuine affinity for the club, I honestly think that if the money was truly there to spend, it would be spent. Everton are a club who aren't staring at a financial black wall and are reasonably stable in an increasingly unstable market. You can complain all you want about the lack of money we've spent but the fact is we are still here and don't appear to be going under any time soon. What with football clubs dropping like fly's and the economy in a torrid state and only getting worse, survival has to be priority. I would much rather our spending be stringent and the football club I have loved for years survive than have us spend millions of pounds that we don't have and end up like Portsmouth or Rangers.

Just a thought

Finishing 17th makes you more money than finishing 1st.

The money you need to put into the squadto win stuff outweighs the finanical rewards. Winning silverware won't make us turn a profit.

Yeah nobody wants to be Portsmouth/Leeds/Rangers.

So the best thing to do is Loan the Club money and charge them interest.

Cos if they simply "invested" the money into buying players, what benefit would that bring Everton?

Its best to just milk the Club and pay interest on Loans.

Its better for everybody that way, cos Leeds.

It,s all been said. I would suggest you read back through the thread on any aspect from stagnation to making a massive profit on the way out of the club.
