The Everton Board Thread

I think because he continuously gets battered for his Mata and Witsrl claims. Ok it didn't turn out but how many on here have made similar claims but turned out wrong. Tbh, everything he has said about Moshiri's investment has been true. He said he would go it alone and he has been proved right on that until now with MSP. I just feel the man is continuously battered with a stick by the same people for providing information he has heard. Sometimes rumours are true, sometimes not. The lad deserves a break tbh
He gets battered because he regularly presents conjecture as definitive fact. It's not just Witsel and Mata from 2016. It was also his adamant insistence that Usmanov would never sell his shares in Arsenal to Kroenke. And just last month we had his pronouncement that Kenwright would be gone "by Wednesday" when there wasn't a shred of evidence to suggest that would be the case.

He positions himself as an authority - blogs, podcasts, definitive tweets - when he's merely speculating.

I quite enjoy him. His takes on the financial side are worth listening to. But beyond that you might as well be reading Alan Nixon...

The Kronke/Usmanov stance was what I was referring to when I said he picks some strange hills to die on.

Like you, I enjoy his take on the financial and business side of things, he gets more right than wrong.

I'm just not a fan of Internet pile-ons. (Particularly when a lot of those being critical don't have the first clue themselves)

I agree the reaction he gets sometimes is well over the top...Seems like a decent peaceful, human being even if he does get things wrong. Ultimately you should take anything anyone says over the Internet with a pinch of salt.

I agree with you. I don't like pile-ons either. However, if you set yourself up as an authority, criticism is inevitable if you become dogmatic about something that is subsequently proven erroneous. It's a credibility issue. Saying Esk doesn't have much is not a pile-on. Abusing him collectively is.

You have to remember the guy will have his own opinions aswell. If you don’t want to take stuff as concrete then don’t. I have learned with Everton never to believe anything until it actually happens, especially with transfers. So far we have been linked to around thirty players, it’s all paper talk.

Fair enough.

Perhaps when any assertions made like the "kenwright" one he needs to be less assured, this is what causes the issues.

I have always found his finance analysis pretty interesting but the transfer stuff etc. way off.

Never really witnessed a pile on, to him tho, may have missed it ut we all get called out when we post rubbish so hes no different in that respect.
