In a way you are right...getting the board out won't change too much on the pitch between now and May, but now the motivation is high to get rid of them and could easily be replaced by the relief of survival again in May should it happen. The board is an ongoing problem, that either hide their incompetence behind mediocrity or contribute to downright failure. It happens in a different timeline to manager switches.
