That's why I mentioned wanting to see footage of Maradona showing the vision Messi has. Because from everything i've seen of Maradona, Messi can do it all. And he's now matched him in the "leading his country to a World Cup trophy win" stakes too.

Messi is able to do everything Maradona could do with a football.
You can put all the great players who have ever played then pick your man, mine is Pele. just my opinion like everyone else’s.it’s just an opinion. Stats are stats they prove nothing just like one of my favourite players won nothing,Tom Finney,he was still a marvellous player.

This World Cup has had the highest interaction on Instagram and Twitter out of any sporting events. It's clear to say that all these "boycott" calls have backfired big time. It sometimes feels like some European countries are in their own bubbles.

You live in Europe.

Take on board your points mate and not diminishing Diego's achievements as you know I think he's one of the greatest, however taking your logic and the application, you could say someone like Jamie Vardy matched those achievements - dragging a relegation club, with no history in the top flight to the PL title - a league filled with the worlds best players, he won the cup as well - fine achievements but not distinguishable to have a nose out in front as the greats compatively.

Diego was wonderful, i just don't think what he achieved at club level is that remarkable, socially and culturally definitely given the North/South divide but from a sporting perspective, its not that remarkable when you consider it was done over almost a decade - not to be sniffed at but not exceptional, especially given the comparisons you make. Diego was a better player then say Gullit (though world class himself) Gullit, won three titles and two European cups over the same era in Serie A and they both had to play under the three foreigner rule.
Theres a world of difference to Jamie Vardy netting 16 goals when Leicester won the PL and Maradona's achievements.

Comparing him with him and even Gullit is woefully and criminally inadequate.

He only stands comparison with Pele in terms of the impact he had on football.

Messi fair enough has setlled the Messi or Ronaldo debate, but he's never in that class of Maradona and Pele. What you'll get is the Football Manager generation who've only known Messi and the Little Englander bigots who can never forgive the Hand of God moment combining to suggest Messi has climbed into the pantheon of football Gods - or even worse being 'G.O.A.T'.

That's for the birds.

There's no new paradigm. The world spins as it did before Sunday. And the hierarchy is still in place - save for Messi clambering above Ronaldo in that generational tussle.
