The Final: Argentina v France

Maradona was never a party to an absolute shitshow at Anfield in a team that gave up a 3 goal lead to lose spinelessly.

Will always be a blot on Leo’s copybook for me.

If you can't be bothered to watch all of it, please go to 1:13, 2:28, 5:27, 5;58, 6:41 and 7:26 on this and tell me that Messi didn't show up at all in that game. On another night he could've come away with 3 assists. Not a great performance by his standards but he's still dribbling past players for fun, having shots, playing through balls for teammates to score. Most players in the world would be delighted with a performance like that.

That's after he scored 2 in the first leg, one being an amazing freekick and should've had another assist to wrap up the tie by playing in Dembele who missed a key chance right at the end.

Sorry, I am a bitter old git and will not be moved even though you probably have a great point

He was at Old Trafford late 80s I think. Barca 2 nil up after 1st leg, Utd battered them 3 -0 in the 2nd leg.

I think it all comes down to this:

Could Pele, Eusabio, Cruyff or Messi have powered a team like Napoli to a couple of Italian titles when that title was the greatest domestic prize in world football?

I dont think so. That was partly a result of unbelievable football talent and partly a man supercharging a whole fanbase and city into believing it could be done.

Only Maradona could do that. He was superhuman.
A fair assessment of his talent I have to say. Part of which was his infectious enthusiasm and love of having a ball at his feet.

This Argentina squad continue to be utterly graceless in victory, I'm sure there are good lads in there but they are being outshone by the turds, setting a really dreadful example.
Got to think that Mbappe is going to put this picture up for motivation the next time they play each other.

Seems a dumb move when Mbappe scored 4 goals against him

To be fair, Mbappe had said recently that South American football is inferior to European and Argentina or Brazil couldn’t win the World Cup, so that might be the context behind it.

Mbappe is a bit of a bell too by all accounts.

I think the act is part of the Argies game plan. Cultivate a siege mentality and all that

Did the same with Van Gaal having a pop at them too

I doubt he even thinks about who the aston villa keeper is that often, its not like Mbappe plays with much intent to antagonise either. They were happy to abuse a 70 year old manager about to retire in victory, so attacking a young lad who gave absolutely everything to lift his team and must now feel crushed is not beyond them. I think it sets a really rotten example.

It was in very poor taste what they did
