I do see big changes coming but part of me wants them to take a minimal approach to the January window (subject to them getting approval in time).
We need a left back. That's pretty obvious. What type of left back is up for debate & how committed do they want to be to a new player that a new manager in 6 months time may not like needs consideration too.
If anyone was to leave in Jan then we would clearly need to address that aswell.
I think we would have enough to stay up. Would prefer the clean slate approach to happen pre season with all new ideas & personal all thinking the same way & those ideas been given the correct time to get them right.

I agree with this, no point in bringing in any new players in January, I would play it by ear if we seem comfortable in the league then give Dyche till the end of the season and see out his contract and then start a brand-new era for this club

Your timeline of Aston Villa's success, in particular, is off. That ownership group had a full 3 years in control before they achieved what they did last season, and saw pretenders like Dean Smith and Steven Gerrard at the helm.

Having said all of that, the stability those ownership groups provided should be what we expect from TFG.

I tend to agree with your sentiment, just not your wording. Stability should be provided from the top in terms of vision and funds to see that vision through.

For far too long, we've relied on the manager and DoF to provide stability, because our owner was a muppet. When we talk about Dyche and the job he's done, that needs to be factored in. That doesn't mean that he should remain the manager, but does deserve more credit than would normally be afforded for managing the situation.

At some level of the business there needs to be stability, it can't be all parties taking extreme risks and not working in concert. Which is what we've been under Moshiri, until he could no longer fund the club and had to rely on Dyche and Thelwell to protect whatever he had left of his investment.
Villa started to look like a professional outfit the minute the new owners came in. three year building project to get where they are now.

They have mainly done well in signing Championship players and players with something to prove. Our strategy when we had money under Moshiri was to give everyone one last payday.

I hope we have learned

Don't do it to me m8, @Zatara is already preparing his list :coffee:

In all seriousness, we have so many players soon to be out of contract and many others not far off being out of contract...theres a lot of work to be done.

We have no choice but to bring in players.

Theres simply too much work to be done on the squad for one summer window.

I think we probably need 3 or 4 in Jan. Or at least to get players at foreign clubs signed to precontracts.

There will need to be some incomings. There won't be a huge transformation in January, but we need to get through the season and for me, we don't have the squad to do it at the moment.

That's understandable, I take your point we do need some more players to cope with the rest of the season just hope it's with the intention of bringing in players who will work with the new manager whenever that will be

Think a lot also depends on if Kevin is given an extension and allowed to hire a new manager. We have 12 first team players registered at the club come the summer, that includes the likes of Beto who may be sold. That is a daunting task, as we could need as many as 10 players with the majority of them potentially being first 11 players. That could see January as potentially an opportunity to sign 1-2 players ahead of the summer who could come straight into the team. Think everyone would be happy with a right back and left back for example. I acknowledge though that January is a difficult window to find quality and at a good price.

We have got to be sensible and not have a repeat of the Koeman summer, I am sure all the issues you have mentioned with be dealt with, what I do like is they do put people in charge and let them make the decisions and not interfere which is what has been happening previously (how many number 10's do we need to buy)

Moshiri was doomed to failure the minute they decided they were keeping Kenwright and his merry men to keep on running it. Premiership proven became our motto.

When I think of stability, I'm not thinking of finishing 10th place I'm thinking of not;

* nearly selling us to a ponzi scheme
* saying our star striker practices voodoo
* employing a much hated manager of our nearest rivals.
* conducting all fan comms via Jim White
* accusing fans of spurious headlocks
* loaning el Ghazi cos someone's mate told them to
* conducting their own defence at a crucial Premier league trial
* living hand to mouth on cash flow
* etc etc.

If it takes a couple of years for the friedkins to lay some foundations and establish professionalism throughout the club, I could live with it.

100% agree we need to sensible. I think Kevin left to his own devices can deliver in my opinion. We will sign players in January as we do need reinforcements in certain areas, but we also need starters in areas like both fullback positions. If we can address that this window coming up and not pay over the odds then I’m all for it. As it only strengthens are position this season hopefully, but also means we can focus on other areas come the summer. But if we have to just have stop gaps in January that’s fine with me also.

You can go back to the prior majority shareholder. Moyes provided the stability, not the owner.

When I think of well run clubs, that just don't rely on money, the two examples that pop into my head are Tottenham and Brighton. Their sustained performance (moreso for Tottenham than Brighton) isn't reliant on a manager.
