The GOT Book Club

Pity they didn't have that fancy armour on the steering mechinism, that and the ongoing damage from the various persuers caused them to pull the plug
You dont scuttle a ship with torpedo proof armour, you scuttle a lost cause though.
Just sayin like
well i didn't want to give away to much about the book but thanks for the input.

Just finished this, as far as I know John Grishams only non fiction book.

The story of the wrongful conviction / stitch up for murder of two men, who were sentenced to death in rural Oklahoma.

If it wasn't true, it wouldn't be believable.

Very well written, with real passion by Grisham.

If you were pro death penalty, you won't be after reading this book !

I was pleasantly surprised by this one. The main characters are compelling, the story interesting and the world building is superb. There's a few chapters that lag a little but overall it's an excellent read. The ending just left me wanting to know more. Looking forward to the next book in this series. Very much recommended.

At the moment I am working my way through books on football , the Kindle is armed with about 50 so far and from recent readings I can give you some of my opinions on the following:

Well worth getting hold of and I will be reading them again at some point:

Soccernomics - Simon Kuper & Stefan Szymanski
The Special One - Diego Torres
The Numbers Game - Chris Anderson and David Sally
Pep Confidential - Marti Perarnau
The Nowhere Men - Micheal Calvin
The Real Madrid Way - Steven Mandis
Inverting the Pyramid - Jonathan Wilson
Pirates, Punks & Politics: FC St Pauli - Nick Davidson

Ok & interesting in parts but probably not worth a re-read:

The Deal: Inside the world of a super agent: John Smith
The Fix: Soccer and Organised Crime - Declan Hill
The Billionaires Club - James Montague
Barca - Graham Hunter
Soccer Against the Enemy - Simon Kuper
El Classico - Richard Fitzpatrick

Meh:

Pep Guardiola - Guillem Balague
Football men up close with the giants of the modern game - Simon Kuper
The Football Ramble - Marcus Speller
Outside the Box - Duncan Alexander
Fear and Loathing in LaLiga - Sid Lowe

If there are any football books that are 'must reads' then please let me know (although I am not that keen on autobiographies, I have read quite a few and they really don't do it for me so I tend to avoid them nowadays, however biographies give a more balanced view imo)

thrawn-alliances-official-cover-696.webpTimothy Zahn yet again works his magic with yet another top class Star Wars book. Focusing on Thrawn and Vader/Anakin. The book is divided into two parts, half during the Clone Wars and half in the rebellion era. It also seems that Zahn has
brought the Vong into the new EU under a diffrent name.
Reccomened to anyone who enjoys Star Wars.

How would you rate this against the original Rift war series (assuming you've read those). I loved the first 3 books of the rift war but subsequent novels had an element of repetition about them

Read the first Witcher book on holiday, fun to see where the characters from the game came from, but a pretty basic read. Wasn't looking for a masterpiece, but it reminded me of stuff like David Eddings that you read when you're 14.
So not really recommended, although if you love fantasy it's no trouble to read in a couple of sittings.

Last day of holiday in Cyprus today. Sitting here by the sea reading How not to be a boy, Robert Webb autobiography. Enjoyed it so far, will finish it on the aeroplane tomorrow.

Not sure I'd put it in the same league as the first three Rift War books but in fairness I don't see him ever topping those. This is still excellent and the best thing he's written in years imo. It takes a while to get going but the pay off is well worth it.
