The GOT Book Club

On Book 5 of My Struggle, an extraordinary autobiographical saga by Norwegian Karl Ove Knausgaard . It's incredibly detailed, right down to conversations held in childhood. The author doesn't claim complete accuracy and so you'll find the books under fiction.

His relationship with his monster of a dad overshadows much of the series but it's very funny in places and music fans of the 80s/90s will appreciate many of the references as Karl Ove attempts to make it as a drummer as well as a writer. His awkwardness with girls and his drink problems are painfully described and should strike a few bells with readers!

Definitely a good one. Read that and The Heavenly Table this past summer.

Thanks for the recommendation of The Heavenly Table Mate.

I`d never heard of the author - Donald Ray Pollock before and I`ve put Heavenly Table and another of his books - the Devil all the time on my reading list.

I,ve been reading a lot of American Gothic recently and I`ve got to say, that it`s cracking stuff ;)

Currently reading Red Rising, based on a recommendation; seems like a fun sci-fi story similar to Wool (the silo series).
It's an excellent series that gets better by the book. Really surprised me how much I enjoyed the whole series. I was surprised that the author decided to do a second follow-up triolgy as he'd left the story in a really good place and I didn't see how he could build any further but the first new book keeps the high standards he set with the first three while adding some new dynamics, fresh spins and interesting characters.

Good to know you liked it. I am surprised by how engaging it is (only because I really don't read that much sci-fi stuff...).

Another cracker from an American author - The Summer of Night.

Set in the Midwest in the 60's, a demonic force is about to be unleashed on the world and the only people that realize it are six kids.

Think of Stranger Things merged with Stephen Kings - IT and you're getting there.

The writer - Dan Simmons, wrote The Terror and is much more accomplished than Stephen King.

A really thoughtful and beautifully written American Horror.

Recommended.

Thanks - will give this a go.

Bought this today, a social history of Britain in the early seventies. If earlier books in the series are anything to go by, should be a cracking read.
