I can't read too much at one sitting! The short stories are ideal. Ulysses on the other hand took me weeks to finish.Dubliners / James Joyce what a mind!
Just finished reading Midnight in Chernobyl. An excellent book
Not yet. I’m going to check it out though. My father is a retired nuclear engineer and he thought Midnight in Chernobyl was excellentHave you read Chernobyl Prayer ?
Incredibly powerful collection of recollections of the events leading up to and after the disaster by members of public / officials.
There are several accounts that have you in tears.

Is Svetlana Alexeivich the author? Sounds she like may be based on the description. I read her A Secondhand Time last year—-she has a real gift of weaving in the narratives of various members of Soviet/Russian societyIt`s a brilliant read.
The author takes no sides, merely gives the people of the region a voice to give their version of events.
The Russian government doesn`t come out of it too badly, it`s the local party officials that seem to be the real culprits -corruption / covering up to save face.
Just read the reviews of Midnight in Chernobyl and it`s on my reading list![]()

My cousin lent me Midnight in Chernobyl, but having watched the TV series recently I can't find the enthusiasm to start it.Not yet. I’m going to check it out though. My father is a retired nuclear engineer and he thought Midnight in Chernobyl was excellent
If you haven’t read it already, I’d highly recommend Rocket Men by Robert Kurson. He details the Apollo 8 mission. I never realized how important it was in setting the stage for the moon landingI've managed a lot of reading over the last six months. Very little work as the music industry has ground to a complete halt here, what with Covid lockdown etc.
I read Margaret Atwood's The Testaments last night, fantastic book and a very worthy sequel to The Handmaid's Tale.
Next up is Carrying The Fire by Michael Collins. I've become fascinated by the Apollo programme recently and this is a great account, from what I've read so far. Better than Buzz Aldrin's ego-fest Magnificent Desolation.
Yeah absolutely, Apollo 8 was the first time humans had ever left low Earth orbit, 'alone in the trans-lunar void'. Incredible mission really. Will try and find a copy of that book, cheers. If you haven’t read it already, I’d highly recommend Rocket Men by Robert Kurson. He details the Apollo 8 mission.
