The GOT Book Club

Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir,if you enjoyed the Martian you will love this.Out in paperback.

Just read the reviews, sounds fantastic - on my list ;)

The first act is one of the most enthralling things I’ve read in a long time. Proper hooks you in with the intrigue from the start.

Thought it got a little predictable near the end (things go wrong, main character uses knowledge of SCIENCE! to escape by the skin of his teeth, rinse/repeat)
Still an excellent read regardless!

Just finished this- Bobby Gillespie / Primal Scream bio.

He’s obviously a bright guy, but comes across as self obsessed and a bit of an arse.

Plus the way long term band member, Martin Duffy was treated prior to his death by Gillespie, makes his claims of being an Uber socialist, ring a bit hollow.

This has been out for a while & I'm glad I finally got around to it.

There are some great insights into the early days of punk, yet she doesn't overdo it. The book is obviously about Viv Albertine and not just who she knew & what they did. Recounting the breakdown of her marriage, no doubt ex-hubby has his own take on things. Would love to know where exactly she lived in Sydney until the age of 4.

One minor gripe, some of the time frames & dates don't seem to add up - maybe I misread them or can't count on my fingers. Nevertheless, it is a very open, honest, & at times, a very raw account of her life. Well worth reading. Looking forward to the sequel.

Loved this book. I don't the era well enough to clock any timeframe discrepancies, but always find it amazing how well people remember stuff from decades ago generally. Will forgive if the dates are all over the place haha

Just finished this new novel, in which a group of Kiwi anarchist horticulturalists meet a sketchy American billionaire. It splits the difference between a novel of ideas and a thriller. Good stuff.

And just in time for the 4th of July, here's a recent biography of one of British North America's greatest troublemakers. Lime-juicers out!

As you’d expect, the first chunk of the book covers his rugby career, but the bizarre thing is, that he comes across as not really being that bothered about everything he’s done and won in rugby and as such this part of the book comes across as quite flat.

However, once he starts all of his running challenges for Rob Burrows, the book really comes to life.

His love for Rob shines out, throughout the whole book and Sir Kev is truly an incredible human being.
