I remember my mom bought me the NWA tape when I was about 11 or 12 (before parental advisory tags). I was a little surfer kid that listened to reggae just about all the time so she figured it was another group of that genre. We were driving over the causeway one day when I put the tape in. First song plays. She hit eject, pulled the tape apart, cut it, and gave it back to me. She was not happy. I ended up buying my own, but still. Pure horror for her.

I think 95% of what is heard is indeed playing up to a quite odd stereotype. I do try to see through the silliness and try to see the creativity. There's some interesting things to discuss, just like all genres of music..
