Seriously though, Jay Z is the greatest and there's no doubt.

I don't know mate. I honestly think it's about the individual songs / tracks. It's the combination of rhythm, flow, structure and melody that determines great rap. No one in my opinion applies that to everything they do.

Jay-Z thoroughly annoys me at times with unnecessary profanity and playing up to a stereotype, then brings out something fantastic which is unrivalled by today's 'rap' artists.

I agree mate but it's impossible for any artist to be flawless in all of their songs. I think it's Jay Z based on his consistency though, and the fact that he's repeatedly kept up with modernising his music. As much as I love Tupac and Biggy I doubt they could've done it anywhere near the same extent - Nas is an example of this as even though I really liked his latest music, he's seem to struggle to do it as consistently as Jay Z has.

How many artists in any genre have even done close to what Jay Z has done in the past 15-20 years? No more than a handful for sure.
