I could barely manage 1 a year ago mate. I neglected back pretty much my whole life, think it was @Baines' left foot put me into a good back workout.

One workout I don’t do still to my detriment is deadlifts cause I cannot after all these years get the form right. Always finish with rotten lower back pain, need to find a way to correct that.
Trap bar to make it simpler.
Or do single leg deadlifts with a light dumbbell in each hand. Build up the hamstring strength slowly.

Key to deadlifts is getting the hips as high as possible and you basically just lean back with the weight and bring the bar up close to shins and thighs

I feel like an old fart going the gym with a notebook and pen (i am an old fart fwiw) any of you whippersnappers know of a decent app that I can use to log my work outs on? Preferably free? Just want to be able to see any improvements.

FitNotes is supposed to be decent. It’s one of the few free ones that won’t pepper you with all that free trial nonsense. I’ve got it downloaded but never used it.

Notes on iphone is ample
Same here.

I like the little check boxes. I just copy and paste the last session and use that as a reference point. It’s worked very well for me over the last 10 years.

Fitness Point is a decent app, the free version has quite a lot in it and it’s boss for tracking progress as you can see previous lifts as you’re inputting what you lifted most recently.

I’ve rediscovered my love for dips. They’re an incredibly effective compound exercise for upper body.

I’ve only managed up to 5 reps so far, but I’ve noticed an increase in mass.

Can’t recommend them highly enough.
Very hard on the shoulders though, especially loaded. Beware

Use with a rubber band to increase reps. Or just do two everytime you walk past it

I’ve never done them loaded. I found the extra weight put me off balance.

If I can do 4 sets of 8-10 reps then that’ll probably do me anyway. I’m all about form and slower movements, now.

I have ditched the metal and embraced the calisthenics movement. Spent 15 years doing weights and got bored of the gym culture, love getting all my workouts done out in the fresh air now, not arsed about size just want to be athletic and healthy for as long as pos. Feeling great, up to 18 strict pull ups in a row, 30 dips and currently trying to master the muscle up but finding them hard on my shoulder.
Do I need to hand my badge in?
