The Heatwave

It's talking about forecasting for 2050 and the prospect worsening weather, so I don't think it quite serves as the slam dunk you think it does.

Also, there's literally a link in that article saying "heatwaves are here to stay, time we adapted"
There's literally the word terrifying in the headline, with literally a red-coded alarming temperature map of the weather today that the media & government are hyping up, which yous just said that messaging isn't for us.

Of course the messaging is for all of us: the timing of the article directly relates it to the heatwave we're having right now.

They're making us all hyper-aware of the situation.

Let's hope it's for good intentions.

According to the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA), about 1600 people died in the UK because of heatwaves in 2021 and about 2500 in 2020
1976 and 2003 off the top of my head had more excess deaths due to heat-related issues.

Did you also know that cold-temperature related deaths number tenfold the heat-related deaths?

I hope we see this level of hype, in the name of protecting the vulnerable, when winter hits.

Oh, we will, as people won't be able to afford to heat their homes.

Had the rather unfortunate experience of my missus passing out in Heraklion a few years ago.

It was around 38c. Stuck to the shade as much as possible when we walked though town and had just entered the Archaeological museum. Daft sod had swerved breakfast and only drank coffee that day. Low potassium and sodium levels. Ambulance to hospital job, absolutely terrified the poor museum staff. Very quickly sorted with an iv drip at hospital. Properly scared me though.

Worst part is that she's from a country where summer temperatures routinely hit this sort of high. Thought she could cope ffs.

Guess it shows it can happen to anyone if you don't respect the heat / keep hydrated. Don't be snowflake and (a) melt, be a wokeflake and stay cool.

amongst all the debate here, this is arguably the most valuable post.

Yes, it can get hot in the summer, and you have to protect yourself and your loved ones. The sun can quickly become a fiend.

The wider debate about the hype & Climate Change generally is separate to sensible common-sense advice like this.

Three days of extreme heat.

It's dangerous for a lot of people. Enjoy it, if you want, most of us will, but it requires caution as we very rarely see temperatures like this.
It's the hysterical headlines that get me. Looking from the outside it's nuts. It's just going to bea bit hotter than usual for a few days. You'd think you'd combust if sunlight touches you
