the meme scene is pretty powerful in shaping basic opinion-making, arguably more effective than mainstream media in certain cases...but if you notice weather reports pushing that emotive red colour more than they used to, than the memesters kinda have a point.

The distrust of the Global Warming Narrative harks back to many failed predictions by media & politicians:

It's still showing two different things. No matter how many times people try to push misinformation that it's a descent into fear mongering.

It's not being portrayed, or rather sold, as that. The media have effectively replaced the classic colours of the traditional weather report with the alarming red of the tenperature reports.

Hence the memes.

it does seem that way to a lot of folk, and i've explained why: media conflating temperature maps with weather reports, the excrutiating Thunberg girl and nutters blocking roads, the attempts to put blame for Global Warming at the hands of Western citizens, the hundreds of examples of laughably-failed doomy predictions...

...i could go on.

We both agreed the communication should be more effective, i'd argue labelling the sceptics as "misinformation pushers" isn't that.

Hence the memes...think of the memes!!

Again. It's information which is selecetive chosen to try to appeal to people that want to think the media and government are spreading fear/modern society is full of snowflakes.

It's not correct, it's showing two completely different things.

What is being sceptical about looking at two different things protayed as the same thing and saying 'hhhrrrmmmm interesting?'

Haven't the graphics just got better? Colouring it red is no more alarmist than blanketing it with images of a gigantic burning star.

Again...it's the mainstream media who are doing this, except they're appealing to the addiction of fear. Look at most news reports of the 'weather'...which map are they leading with? The calming colours of the Weather Map, or the emotive alarming red of the Temperature Map? Which did they lead with 10-20 years ago?

Hence the memes.

Memes are a powerful information tool which shape opinion. More influential than opinion polls or reader-comments...arguably more influential than the mainstream media itself in certain scenarios. At least to those exposed to both.

I'm on the fence myself...just observing and remarking on things.

It's not. It's people cherry picking bits from the media putting them side by side and saying "the media are trying to scare us".

Absolutely no reason to indulge it.

"Calming colours of the weather map" - we could've had 60 degree heat in 1990 but at least we had a nice calming map!

20 years ago they were sticking pictures of the weather on a board with cellotape ...perhaps we've moved on a bit?
