I just love watching every team that plays against us have the freedom and time to pass us to death without pressure.
It works for us, I'm surprised the champions league teams haven't adopted it yet.

Yeah you could probably say it was revived to combat tiki taka. But you can go back through other periods of history when it was used

I would say this, there are not many modern day tactics that have not been used in the history of football. However, I doubt there was a fascination with naming every single one of them a unique and sometimes 'quirky' name, same with player positions. Therefore, it is seen as not existing as nobody put a name to it.

Do some people think that no manager, in the history of football, before it was named, said to their players 'I want you to push up higher when they have possession'.

True, but it's far higher up the pitch nowadays with more emphasis on extra players being involved too. Everton played it somewhat, in the 80s as mentioned but with nowhere near the levels of intensity that many modern teams adopt. When I think of an example of the 'modern' high press in the Premier league, it was probably Pochetino's Southampton side against us during the Bobby days. They really swarmed all over us at the back and gave us no time on the ball, i remember being impressed at the time at how relentless they were- and definitely one of the first times i'd seen it played with that level of intensity.

Look at the physique of the players then and now and the miles they run each game
One word: HGH

Wouldn't say it was built for that. It's been around for donkey's years. Just Jurgen Klopp convinced the world he invented it.
rs were doing it in the 60s...sometimes not too well...it seemed almost every picture in the paper of a goal they conceded had only 2 main players in it - the scorer and a scrambling / prone / beaten Lawence...oh if you looked closely though, in the distance you'd see the 'tiny' figure of Yeats about 35yds away up field with his arm upraised in forlorn hope.

Edit; They used to say there was that much space in front of him that Lawence was the first overlapping keeper.

That Bayern of Jupp Heynckes from almost decade ago was joy to watch, destroyed Barca tika-taka with their press and tempo and won everything.

And then came Guardiola and tried to make them play exact system they humiliated and destroyed under Heynckes

The Bayern-Dortmund game was the best CL final i've seen for years, an excellent game, such high quality.

Would've been good to see 2011 Barcelona vs 2013 Bayern. Heynckes' Bayern never went up against Pep's Barcelona unless I'm mistaken. Pep was already gone by then I think.
