Lucho Gonzalez We tried to sign him, absolutely 100% did not want to join us.

Stephen Appiah (surprised his name has not been mentioned already, but he has really fallen out with Fenerbache big time, another good player) Has a brain hemorage thing or something could be out for years let alone months

Michael Carrick (good player, might cost too much, dunno whether the Mancs would sell) Correct Mancs wouldnt sell and he wouyld not sign for us.

Michael Johnson (again good player, young, should be the type of player we should be looking at to build for the future) Prodigy of Shittys youth academy will not sell especially when Swen has money to burn

Joey Barton (Geordies could well go down, Barton has had a nightmare up there, but I think he could do a job for us) Pleas god no

Michael Bradley (This US International from Heerenveen we have been linked with, never seen him play, but has been earning rave reviews, and seems a DM type of player?) Dont kn ow much about him......

Not very realistic players in my opinion but what do I know Im a failed Sunday league player.

He's alright. He has potential but if he came he wouldn't be a starter. I feel Osman, Fernandes and Cahill are better players at this current time. He's very similar to Cahill in terms of position. Plays more or less as an attacking midfielder in Holland. I'm not sure what he's like for USA.

He's scored a few goals in the Dutch League but I wouldn't look into that much personally. Denny Landzatt who used to play for Wigan used to bang them in in Holland yet only lasted a season at Wigan.

our best midfield imo is the solid diamond formation :

.........carsley
arteta osman pienaar
..........cahill

there's a lot of flexibility & potential for interchanging between players. osman is very effective in the role & it's up to fernandes to show he can do better. i'd also like to see a player brought in to challenge carsley for his position.

as for gravesen, wasn't he on his way to madrid by the time arteta was acquired?

id like to see arteta fill the gap until we can get someone in.

.........howard
nev yobo jags lescott
.........carsley
osman arteta pienarr
..........cahill
...........yak

the most gifted player in the squad should fill the 'playmaker' role in the middle.
he would certainly have a lot of time , protection and options.

if we have to buy someone .. they have to be a good passer , able to hold the ball and be very strong.

1 player springs to mind (from the premiership) and fits moyes choice of players' to a tee...

hes just coming into his prime years , has loads of experience , an international , good work ethic and a pro attitude , leadership qualities , has a good left foot , a good shot , gets goals , tackles and can pick a good pass......gareth barry.
who seems to have moved from lb to cb , to lm , to dcm , to cm.
so he can pretty much play anywhere.

id have to have a good think before i can come up with a more exciting player to fill the gap.

ps. i just wish we could play 2 upfront from the start.
a good regular strike partnership in a 442 would do us wonders imo.

i think arteta is now a side midfielder, sure he can roam inside but he is at his most effective when attacking from wide area's he is one of the few everton player with the ability to beat his man with ease. however i think pienaar could do the job, in saying that i think cahill put his hand up for the job when we played pompey, he was great in there once AJ came on. I think we should be playing
Carsley
Arteta cahill Pienaar

with yak and AJ up front, and Neville should replace hibbert at the back.
give tim a chance, i think he is being sold short but if it doesn't work out, give piennar a shot.

The thing is though mate a midfield of Cahill and Carsley doesn't work. Its proven time and time again. They both have there qualities but in terms of ability on the ball and an eye for a pass there lacking. Because they lack these attributes most of the creativity would come through the wings which doesn't help Johnson or Yakubu at all.

If where going to move to the next level we need to dictate games and control possession of the ball. Thats why at the moment I believe Fernandes and Osman are the best options. We've already seen how these can boost the team. Fernandes came in last season and provided the creativity through the middle which improved us dramatically. We where actually playing football, Arteta, Osman and Fernandes where linking up and it led us to Europe. When we missed out on Fernandes Osman has come in and done a great job. He probably not a natural dictator of the game like Fernandes or Arteta but he does link play well and its obviously improved us.

I disagree with you on Arteta. I think he's the best centre midfielder at the club. Moyes prefers him out wide which I understand because he's one of our few players who can go past a fullback but if we had two natural wide players he'd be a quality central midfielder alongside a midfield enforcer. Sometimes being out wide effects his game and doesn't let him go on the ball as much. When the fullback has the ball he moves by the touch line giving himself hardly any room to actually get the ball and run at players. When Lescott has the ball Pienaar moves inside into a more central area so it gives him time and space aswell as letting the fullback get beyond him.

Screw this [Poor language removed], I dont care how crap Fernandes has done in the games hes played for us this season. He did [Poor language removed] brilliantly last season, he has so much ability and quality, he is the perfect option for this bloody hole that needs filling, no one can ever play a central through ball like he can.

He's 1000times better than Osman, can do what no other player in our midfield can do, he hasnt shown much in the majority of the games hes played for us this season, but obviously hes gonna be [Poor language removed] after being so long without playing. Hes brilliant, sign him, no hole to fill, over time he'll be where he was last season and beyond.

hes got a point: quality doesnt disappear overnight.

I was just speaking to a friend about it and telling him how we need a good central midfielder and he just kept on saying we have Fernandes and that theres no ways we should get rid of him, not even for 12million. Fernandes has almost unique footballing skill and we have him in our grasp.

hopefully this bad spell will lower the transfer fee, failing that possibly a season long loan with a fixed price option to buy. then he would have the whole season to prove himself ( if not we cant lose) also he would have a proper pre-season to get fit.

Hes going to have to prove himself again and the games are running out to do so. Hes not even making our bench anymore (n)

Plus I've always rated Scharner at Wigan. Always seemed to score against us too.

He's playing centreback at the moment against Arsenal and doing well, but he was quality as a defensive midfielder last season.

Get him relatively cheap too.
