The impending forward crisis

Why are we as a fan base so dismissive of tall strikers/target men?

I’ve lost count, this season, of how many times I’ve watched De Bruyne whip in a cross from the wing for Haaland to score from. I absolutely love a good whipped in cross for an advancing striker to get his head on.

We talk like it’s beneath us for some reason, same with Dyche‘s tactics/style. It’s all part of the game. They are all viable ways to play the game.
The game has changed in recent years and banging crosses up to a big man is pretty easy to play against tbh. Forward players these days need to have a bit more to their all round game that's all. As for Haaland they whip crosses for him to run onto more than anything, that's his strength. His biggest weakness is probably his heading ability. I have always said as a team we need to be able to mix it up. We need to be able to offer crosses from the wide areas but we also need to be able to pass through the middle if need be.

As a fanbase all you really want is a striker that will put the ball in the back of the net, regardless of height.
I think the term 'Target men' is where fans might question that approach.
In this day and age and the way football is played, as a striker you need a lot more 'strings to your your bow' then being a target man.
Especially when playing to a solo forward system.

The opposition would love to be able to spend a week training knowing the exact set up and game you are going to play.

It's a big problem, there's no doubt about it. It's happened a few times now: Dom plays a game, looks a bit more like himself, we get a result from playing to his strengths, then he gets injured and the wheels fall off.

Sadly this time it's taken literally one game. I don't know what the answer is with the squad as it is, to be honest - previous managers have already tried the obvious things. Hopefully Dyche can come up with something new.

3 - 1-0 home wins
14 - goaless draws
Should do it. ?

I do think Onana looks the part. Obvioulsy he's raw, but he's not afraid of an aerial challenge and has the engine to do that job all day.
Only problem is that Onana is rubbish at both heading the ball and the aerial challenges. Waste of a player who can perform well in midfield. Simms is also poor in the air but is a decent finisher in the box. Much rather see everything kept on the floor and Grey and Maupay stretch their centre backs

I don't blame Dom for being injury prone it's been known for two years really. I blame the club for not bringing any kind of like for like option to replace him when he's out. It didn't even need to be someone of his level as that's unlikely but someone who can play the target man role and weigh in with goals.

It was sabotage.

The owner and board sabotaged their own manager.

Unfortunately we have some people advising the club on signings (direct to Thelwell and the recruitment team here, not talking about Moshiri's mate) who live in cloud cuckoo land in regards to forward options.

DCL was always doing to be a bit part player. I'll be surprised if he gets more than 4 starts for us in the next 17.

Hence the reason for this thread.
