The impending forward crisis

No manager in the Premier League would do any of the following against the RS Away:
1. Play a lone striker upfront who has no experience of this league
2. Play someone from the Free Transfer List who likely hasnt played a game in 6 months
3. Play a centre back up front who has never played there in his premier career
4. Play a winger up front when we rely on Pickford longy's and winning the second ball.

Result: If DCL is not fit then Maupay starts.

Oh I know, decent finish, but:

I just genuinely didn’t know he’d had a history of being a CF. thought people had just seen that finish against palace and thought “he can’t be any worse then Maupay”.

One take from the Arsenal game, was we didn't mess around trying to play out from the back but went long, winning many headers/flick ons/flick downs/second balls and hassled their CBs.. Once Maupay came on, he didn't win one as their CBs just stretched and won the ball and it came back putting us under pressure. A few times we went wide to Onana who did win headers. I assume Dyche will play the same against lfc as against Arsenal, so if Calvert-Lewin doesn't play then it's either Simms - who may win the long ball, maybe not as many as Calvert_Lewin, so we'd need to win the second ball, but he can still harass their CBs, who are very flaky at the moment. Or Maupay - who wont win any headers so will have to concentrate on winning the second balls or push Doucoure and Onana slightly out wider and hit them. Simms though has to come into the reckoning some time or other. Whoever it is that plays, the last thing I'd want to see is playing out from the back.

I've been thinking about this as well, and I'd like to see Gray being tried up front. Who would you not want to be up against if you're a central defender ? Someone with a bit of pace, who loves taking defenders on. Not all target men have to be built like a colossus - Gray is the same height as Jamie Vardy.

I'd start Onana up front if Calvert-Lewin doesn't make it (though I have a sneaking feeling SD has started the mind games early and he'll be starting).

Onana will frighten the 'kin life out of that backline of theirs. Just take the game to them. Maybe even two up.

I have very little faith in Maupay as our main striker. I’d give Simms a chance. I remember when Rafael had no choice but to play Simms or Dobbin at Chelsea, when he had no Richarlison, Dom, or Rondon. Both impressed me. I thought Dobbin had the pace to trouble Chelsea, but he’s on loan at Derby, so maybe I was wrong about him as a prospect? Simms fits the profile we need in a striker, so I’d play him, if Dom isn’t fit. I dunno if he’ll be good enough, but I’m sure Maupay isn’t! Hopefully we don’t regret not signing a more proven goalscorer, but no striker can score if they don’t get a chance, maybe Simms will get his?
Simms had forty five minutes at Chelsea and was withdrawn because he looked like what he was a very raw young player, Dobbin at least worried Chelsea for the fifteen minutes he wason the pitch.
