£35m for an England striker who will get 20 goals easy for them, and getting £50m for a sulky crocker striker, it's Chelsea who have been had here.

Didn't Sky Sports just recently release a former Everton striker? Why not try to snap up Andy Gray on a free? At least try to set a loan deal.

He has got 11 for newcastle this season already, I'd say Liverpool had better potential to deliver goals to him?

Carroll has played a blinder this year, yet Torres has been "off form" and scored 9.

Carroll wasn't even the top goalscorer in the Championship last year - in fact he wasn't even in the top five.

Liverpool have been raped with this.

He scored 5 goals less than Peter Whittingham (midfielder) in the Championship last year and finished behind those household names Gary Hooper and Nicky Maynard. Meanwhile David Villa (£34m), was becoming top scorer in the world cup and euro2008 as well as moving to over 100 goals in 5 years for Valencia.

Yes he's clearly worth £35m. It's the most astute Liverpool signing since they spent nearly £12M on Babel.

It is silly money. You couldn't even say that he fits Liverpool's style. It seems to be a statement of intent rather than somebody that Dalglish wanted to bring to the club. Even with 50 mill coming in, it's a lot to shell out. They could have bought 5 good quality players with the money they've spent on Carroll.

Oh, your serious?

Andy Carroll a better player than Torres? - Hmm. I don't know where to begin with that one, other than state my opinion that I categorically disagree with the statement that Andy Carroll is a better footballer than Fernando Torres.

Out of interest, where did Andy Carroll finish in the total goalscorers list last season in the Championship?

They've paid £35m for a temperamental (it's fair to say he doesn't seem have the ideal professional mind), injury prone lad with 20/30 top flight appearances to his name. Though to be fair, my assertions there may be a tad harsh, I mean, can I say he's injury prone when he's hardly played?

They've then paid £20m+ for a lad who had done well in the Dutch league (Like Radzinski, Kuyt and Alves) and will no doubt over pay for Charlie Adam, a lad who wouldn't get in our starting midfield.

Gerrard will go in the summer (Quoting Torres and probably after being decked by Carroll) and Liverpool will collapse dramatically.

Exactly.

Don't get me wrong, I like Carroll, but he's worth around £12-14m tops in a normal market. Panic buying and the "English" factor have boomed his price up ridiculously high.

I'd have Torres over Suarez AND Carroll anyday, yet Liverpool will have spent considerably more on both than they get for Torres.

Made up here!

Fair point mate. But he is about 6 year older than him, gets them UEFA brownie points (homegrown) and has therefore potential (21 or 22?)

I have only got one thing to add to this debate or any attempt to compare him in the past to Duncan Ferguson.

Ferguson had a first touch.

Carroll hasn't even got that.

Go figure.

This £35million marquee signing is them trying to overcome THEIR OWN EMBARRASSMENT at losing "Torres". And all that shaz.

FACT. Its nothing more than that.

He's a box player nothing more.

Fellaini isn't just that - the boy can play. So Fellaini must be worth £100 million !!!

No chance mate, I'm not having that.

£35 million is £27 million too much, he's done nothing whatsoever to justfy his fee.

A good 3 months certainly doens't justify spending that type of money and no way is he a replacement for selling one of the worlds top 3 strikers. The money would of been better spent on getting a manager capable of getting the best out of Torres, who is on his day a truly world class striker!

Andy Carroll = Michael Ricketts / James Beattie

The only interested now is if this Thread can get up to a quarter millions of views by the end of the day. If everyone had payed a pound to view we could of maybe covered the loan fee for Beattie:D

To call it rape means that Liverpool paid 35 million against their will. Those idiots did it well on their own accord. For all the blather earlier this year about the Yanks drowning Liverpool in debt, the owners may have changed but things look to to be the same.

They should put Carroll next to that Greek they have in the team photo - brothers in greasy Euro mullets unite!!!
