@Dylan @maddison

I've just spent £1200 on a new MacBook Pro retina.

I feel sick, that's the most I've ever spent, can you please make me feel better by telling me this is worth it

2.6ghz i5
16GB Ram
256 SSD

Me too! Mine arrived on Friday! Same ram, same SSD, but I went for the i7 2.8ghz instead. I still think it's a fat pig compared to my MacBook Air mind. I'll be flogging it as soon as the Air supports 16Gig of Ram, hopefully by the years end when Broadwell hits the street! For now though, VM ware finally rocks again!

The thing that should be the absolute cream when you spend so much on a laptop is the display. Luckily you made the right choice as the retina displays are IPS panels (the best type of panel, and still quite rare for the larger laptops). My Asus G74SX was around €1500 when new, tho' i bought mine used last year for much less, and its much-lauded screen is only 1920x1080 on a TN panel (meaning poor vertical viewing angles).

My hardware is slightly better: i7-2630qm, gtx560m, 16gb ram, 256gb ssd + 750gb hdd (two drives fit in there), but your display kicks mine into oblivion.

A high-end display is the most valuable part of a laptop, as it won't over time lose its relative value like a high-end graphics card or processor would.
