40 year anniversary for the late great Ian Curtis.

Live tribute to Ian Curtis on unitedwestream 8pm to 10pm...

Is anyone going to watch this lockdown sessions on Friday? Some good bands on there - I'm a fan of Spinn, Red Rum Club, Zuzu and Circa Waves. Also enjoyed She Drew The Gun at Glastonbury last year. Spinn singer had on an NEC retro shirt when I saw them at a smaller festival which made me laugh.

Would love it if they put together a little gig with the smaller ones on there when such things come back actually - maybe for EITC or something.

Can anyone recommend any good acoustic sessions?

I've listened to Myles Kennedy and Slash and most of the MTV ones, something along those lines?

Couldn't bring myself to watch it because I'd have killed to have done it!

So... The law in Belgium now is that professional musicians are allowed to practice together if they are 1.5m apart. Our practice space is big enough that we can do that but our bassist isn't having it. He's saying he won't play until the government tell us amateur bands can play together, which will obviously never happen.

We have 4 days booked to record the album in august and 11 new songs to get done. So what do I do? Tell him to nut up and get it done? Fire him? Practice with the others until he gets his head screwed on? I know 5 bands who are practising from next week and he's been desperate to be hard done to by Corona for 3 months now.

It's tough because he's a mate, but this is really important for me and I'm not running a democracy here...

Advice welcomed.

If the law says 1.5m and it’s feasible in the space you have, that seems reasonable to me. I’d attend.

Thanks mate,

Our drummer lives in his folks house so our practice space is their attic. I haven't seen my best amp and guitar in 3 months.

I called the drummer and his dad today and told them that if they're ok, I want to start in June. They can tell me when it's ok. The dad is a massive metal head and super cool and his only comment was (in dutch) "I can't be arsed with the police, so if we can be sure they won't show up then go nuts".

Get in the studio, crack on with the 4 of you initially, plenty of time to get tight initially.

If it gets to the point he still doesn't want to attend by the start of July and there's no genuine reason for him not to, I'd be tempted to bin him off (imo) I've absolutely kicked off on band members over the years, some who are good friends (a lot who aren't any more) and the reason is when you are producing something so important, you are arguing as musicians and not mates. Any band member who couldn't seperate the two and couldn't take critiscim would be binned off with no 2nd thoughts. I've deffo lost friendships along the way, but for me personally (genuinely just my opinion) those that understood it wasn't me having a go as a mate, it was all about the music. It's always about the music.

We're on a schedule and a budget with the label. We have 4 days, we have 20 songs including 9 I've written on lockdown, we have to be able to go in, lay them down quick and tight, do a few little overdubs then mix it, so we have to practice

I'm 38, in my mind this is my last chance. I wrote a good book nobody bought, if the record is the same then it has to be the best it can be. We played an amazing show at the start of march and he told me then he wanted to cut his practice time in half and since then he's been nothing but negative. He's a great player and a great friend, I'm bad at being selfish but at some point maybe I have to be.

And by the way, that's great advice
