We're on a schedule and a budget with the label. We have 4 days, we have 20 songs including 9 I've written on lockdown, we have to be able to go in, lay them down quick and tight, do a few little overdubs then mix it, so we have to practice
I'm 38, in my mind this is my last chance. I wrote a good book nobody bought, if the record is the same then it has to be the best it can be. We played an amazing show at the start of march and he told me then he wanted to cut his practice time in half and since then he's been nothing but negative. He's a great player and a great friend, I'm bad at being selfish but at some point maybe I have to be.
He can still be a great mate and if he's looking to cut his rehearsal time down by half I'd say it isn't being selfish moving him along.
Like you mentioned, the windows of opportunity are very slim when it comes to music. Nothing wrong with wanting to give yourself the best chance possible and you never know, speaking to him candidly about it might be better as he might not have the same hunger as you and the rest of the lads.
A lesson learned in my own experience was to not expect everyone to have the same desire, ambition and work commitment to music as I felt. It didn't mean they didn't care, just that I cared in a different way.
I really only realised that after binning off a fair few band members over the years lol
