Just reading a few different people's opinions about ambition and we are kind of back to that early-Moshiri were people were moaning about ambition, mentality etc.

Several years later there was hindsight saying they wished somebody (and Moyes was mentioned) had been more frugal and sensible in our growth.

So, where are we at ? Are we looking for todays Koeman or Silva again ?

To quote Lampard it's all "relative" to the situation.

Under Moshiri we instantly spent £300mill+ with no plan and fired managers due to wanting to be competitive with the top 5 when we looked mid table. We overspent to create a mid table side.

The funny thing is now... rightly or wrongly we have a plan due to the circumstances. We have a manager with a style (lets not argue over how good it is) working with a DoF with restrictions. It's the only reason why we're treading water without sinking.

If we're talking next steps...to me the latter is the best way of moving forward. You have a manager and DoF working together within a budget that you increase when needed based on progression.

But no one knows that these will do. But they'll have a list of names they want and how to function.

If you define success purely in terms of trophies, yes. But that's a dangerous criteria on which to judge Moyes. He won nothing with us for 11 years, yet he was still "successful" in terms of what Bill Kenwright's (mediocre, self-serving, and very modest) ambitions for Everton were. Frank has done a tremendous job with a tiny club. Being in the top flight is very much "success" for Brentford. Potter, I think, has a weaker case. Brighton appear to have done well without him, partly because they are so well-run and have processes and ínfrastructure in place that are independent of the man in the dugout.

We will have the funds to support a good manager. We don't need to restrict ourselves to our own limited gene pool any more.

I'm with you on Potter - some fans tarnish Moyes with the kind of 'limited / loser' because he didn't succeed at Man Utd when given the opportunity to step up. Couldn't we say the same of Potter ?

I suppose we have to take risks on less proven managers like T.Frank because it's rare you get an Ancelotti available - and they probaly want funds we don't havel.

Moyes was logical to be talking about a week or so ago. If Dyche had to go he could’ve stepped into a club with no settled ownership as a fairly safe choice, and would’ve probably been willing to do so.

The ownership announcement (and to some extent three points) change that a lot- it’ll remain the club’s position to ideally muddle through with Dyche til at least the formal completion of TFG unless things become totally untenable and if / when they bring in their own man it’s very unlikely to be Moyes.
Great post. Honestly if Moshiri was going to drag things out for longer I’d have been pro-Moyes.

The club should be looking at names like Tuchel now TFG are going to be in charge.

Will we though? People act like we have just won the lottery, but Yank owners are pretty tight. They want to get return on their investment.

Juts clearing the debts, etc is a significant investment in itself.
It's a huge investment but they'll want Everton to get the most exposure possible.
They own production companies.
Expect the end of Goodison and the move to be very well documented and expect a high profile manager in place for the start of next season to drum up as much interest as possible outside Everton.

Whoever it is, then get him in as soon as possible. I know, it's controversial my fellow blues, but this season is already a wash out so we might as well get a manager who can progress us and give him as much time as possible to get us on track rather than waste another 32 games on Dycheball, or at least get someone in after we look like we are away from trouble.

They have put a billion into Roma. They are loaded. Rules will prevent a massive trolley dash next summer - thankfully - but we are properly funded for the size of our club now. I am hugely optimistic that means top rank management.

Having funds there to improve the team without the need to sell is a massive step forward for us. In recent years we have been sell to buy with money left over to pay off whatever debt is due.

Even the ability to actually put a proper upfront fee down for a player is huge. If the takeover had happened early last year we could be sitting here with someone like Gyokores instead of Beto.

At Roma TFG appointed Mourinho . They appointed a high profile manager capable of making hard decisions who would raise the profile and standard of the team. This was a success.

Replacing Mourinho has not gone well but you could see what they had in mind.

We may find something similar happen with us and that is why the Sarri rumours are floating around. An experienced high profle manager for a short few years to be replaced by a progressive younger manager when the club has been stabilised.

And he managed to win the Conference League. Definitely the sort of return that requires a top, high profile manager.

Sarri would be a disaster.
