Got something similar in my local, but it’s usually joints of beef, legs of lamb, packets of bacon etc.

Funny unit the gill, different measures in differing parts of the country apparently…….

I always thought it was 1/4 of a pint, fixed and regulated, weights and measures act etc.
sounds like somebody's playing silly buggers

Edit; just checked in UK measure 4 gill to the imperial pint
Sound's like they're sneaking in the smaller US gill, pint gallon measure, but no doubt charging UK pint prices.

but you'd know about that in a purely theoretical manner

Yesterday evening I bit the back of my tongue really hard. By bedtime it was really painful.

This morning it was marginally less painful. I yawned, my jaw clicked and now I can't close my mouth properly. I have had to chew with my front teeth.
